Rules & Useful Thread Index

G’day! Welcome to the R&M forum. Scroll to the second post if you are looking for any of the official threads around here, to save having to use the search tool.

Rules For The tl;dr Types

Don't troll.
Don't spam.
Don't post links to copyrighted material.

moderators have ultimate discretion on how to handle users, their actions and rule violations, so don't sass them

RULES

Below are the rules for the Rock and Metal section of the MX forums. The rules are stated as simply as possible and to the point. If you need clarification on any of the rules feel free to post your inquiries in the suggestion, problem, and idea thread at the top of the forum.

Remember; the mods for this section are superpeer, Cocaine, Riva, pate, Permanent Solution, Meatplow. You know we’re mods because our names are in italics. Also look out for Jom, Spat Out Immense or Wish. We’re all a friendly bunch (mostly), so feel free to ask us for help.

The rules are divided into three sections: Green, Yellow and Red.

Green rules are good for a warning.

Yellow rules will net you a ban of variable length if you break them.

And breaking the red rules will give you a permanent ban.

Green

No spam is allowed. This includes nonsense posts, 123 or variations of, posts consisting of a smiley, etc.

No multiple posting; i.e posting two or more times in a row in a thread. Use the edit button, please.

Before making a thread, check the forum to make sure there isn't a similar thread already. The search function works, so use it. There is also a list of links to popular bands below.

We have a few thread types that are illegal. While it may seem unnecessary, we have our reasons for outlawing these topics.

• List threads: As much as we'd love to know what your favourite Metallica B-Sides are, don't create a thread for this. Either keep it to the pertaining band/genre threads or, better yet, avoid doing so altogether.
• VS threads: These are mostly just flame threads.
• Spam threads: This should be obvious.
• Fantasy band threads: Nobody cares. Really. Note: Not to be confused with power metal band threads.
• Game threads. It’s basically just a glorified list thread.
• Threads regarding your band. I'm sure you guys are great, but keep it to the Jam Session.
• Threads asking what you should learn to play/recommendations. There is a thread for this. Several, in fact.
• Old threads that come back from the dead. If the last post was more than two months ago, chances are nobody will be pleased with you.
• No "elite" genre threads. If you must make a distinction between music you feel is elite compared to what everyone else is discussing in a genre thread politely educate them.

It’s a good idea to avoid posting in these threads, since if the mod is feeling fairly vicious, he may ban the thread starter and you too.

Also, please, please no R.I.P. [dead musician] threads. If it’s a recent event a thread may be made, otherwise you can take it to the community thread.

Yellow

Don’t constantly break any of the Green rules. We only have so much patience.

Don’t create a thread to bash a band. Don’t go into an established thread and mindlessly flame anyone in it/bash the band. For the difference between debate and flaming, see this thread: http://www.sputnikmusic.com/forums/showthread.php?t=435908

Don’t continue personal arguments across the forum. This is not needed and will be dealt with harshly. Take it to AIM/MSN/YIM, etc. if you feel the need.

Posting something illegal along with “I know I shouldn’t post this” or “Wrong forum, but who cares lol”. This is not only breaking the rules, it is blatantly (and knowingly) disregarding them. Please don’t.

Red

Continually breaking the Yellow rules will net you a permanent ban.

No constant posts or threads promoting racism, sexism, etc. These will not be tolerated.

No porn, or graphic images. This is a family-friendly website. Please respect that.

No advertising your equipment/band/website/forums/etc.

Note on Banning:

When you are banned, you will see a screen telling you a reason and the ban’s length. It’s recommended you go over which rule you broke, to make sure it doesn’t happen again. You are permitted to make a second account to post on, provided you don’t break the rules. If you do, your second account will be banned, and the first account will have it’s ban extended by the same amount.

We want everyone to have a good time here. These rules are fluid, and are subject to change without notice, but that doesn’t mean that you are excused for breaking them. Ignorance is no excuse, I’m afraid. However, just try to be decent, and you shouldn’t have any worries.

Note on Filesharing

In short, don't do it on the forums. What you lot do on AIM/MSN/e-mail is not up to us, but any links to copyrighted material will be removed to the best of the moderators' ability. It is their job to keep the interest of the forums uncompromised.

For a more verbose take on the forums' filesharing policy, please read:

Enjoy R&M and we’ll see you around the forum, I’m sure!
