Favourite Camel album?
 

Lol, I know this may come out as a random question but this is my first time on the site and wanted to try out the community forums. So, why not listening to your opinions over my favourite band's work. :D

My pick would totally go to ''Moonmadness''. An incredible piece of music.

their production aesthetic was really stepped up though. Every song really carries the album rather than the hiss-bang of their earlier stuff, where the few standouts carried the show.

Few standouts?? Damn man, I cannot believe you said such a thing xD Anyway, I am also in favor of this album, mainly because I adore songs like "Elke" :P

Hmm. Don't actually know if they can be related to Camel, but I also like Genesis, Focus, Yes, King Crimson and so many other prog-rock bands man. I cannot write them all here xD. We could have a little talk again :)

yeah, and I would wholly relate those bands. Anything that leans closer to rock/pop could be tied together in the progressive scene. There's the RIO bands that take the avant-prog title, but their music sounds quite different from the usual prog-rock arrangements.

I would recommend you check out Autumn - Oceanworld. It was a group that only made its mark in the late 70's, when people generally stopped caring about complex instrumentals. As far as instrumental prog groups go; this is a gem. They strike a distinct balance between classical composition elements and rock without leaning into the avant-prog territory. As far as musicianship they take the cake for me.

Dude, thank you very much for sending me this video. Unfortunately, this is the first time I hear about this band. I'm so disappointed of myself lol. In order to pay you back, here are my two offerings:

Solution's track is similar to Focus' ''Tommy'' from Moving Waves, don't know if you ever heard about that. Anyway, you could tell me what you think ;)

don't be disappointed. I'd been combing through prog-rock since highschool, 8 years ago for me, and I'd only found Autumn last year.

listening to Solution: this is sinking me into a good vibe. I also love saxophone, and in this case it is very tasteful. Definitely has the Camel sound.

also check Kraan - Live 1975. This is a kraut-rock group whose live energy came to resemble uncomplicated progressive rock. Basically very riffy and very high tempo, but highly appealing. Also unique that they made their biggest impact (LP release-wise) displaying their musicianship in a live performance, and on a double album too. What you get is very worthwhile

Hey man, nice to hear you like them. Tbh, i recently discovered them while checking up some playlists on utube. Im stuck with them. Would be cool if I could find a vinyl album from their releases. C u Round ;)

Props for sending me a Kraan vid cause I already know them ;D. Never got deeper into their music though. Should be good to check them once again.

This was first Camel album I liked. I heard some instrumentals from their earlier career but I really loved the "prog pop" sound of their commercial efforts. Abba meets Genesis (early Genesis).

I'm assuming you're also referring to ''Rain Dances''. Nice to hear your opinion as well. That's exactly the opposite for me. I love their first releases cause they are more orchestrated than poppish (don't know if there's a better way to explain it :P). Well, it is common for Camel that even if they make a bad album, there are going to be at least 3 songs in it that will be amazing.
