It's not a problem about the pain, it's just the whole idea of it. The whole premise is sticking a piece of metal through your skin; I don't believe it has any positive aspect to it. Not to mention that I don't think any sort of piercing actually looks good, and most piercings lead to some sort of weird skin formations/scars/sagging etc.

What negative aspect is there? It's to look good.

Also, you won't have any skin problem assuming it's not 2 inches wide and you're not an idiot about taking care of it.

It doesn't look good though. And no matter how well you look after it, there's always a skin problem. Think of it in a very basic way, you're stabbing yourself; there's bound to be damage to the nerves, and that sort of thing. Even tiny ear piercings can often get infected, and lead to all sorts of trouble.

To you maybe, most people think they look great. And you're completely false on that. Stop passing off your random hate for piercings as "facts". I had mine up to around a 6 and since taking it out it's 100% healed and you can't tell anything was there. Also, that last sentence is BS. Like I said before, just take care of it.

Everyone that I know who has an ear piercing has had it infected at some stage, 'tis all I'm saying. It's not random hate either, it's completely justified. Just because it's now commonly accepted as popular fashion doesn't mean that it's 'random hate'. I don't like piercings and don't see the point in them, you think otherwise, that's all there is to it. No need to get so worked up over it.

You're missing the fact that ear piercings are temporary I think.

I don't think any piercing is really temporary if it leaves a deformation. But my view isn't solely based on ear piercings, I was just using them as an example because they are the most common piercing. This is all irrelevant anyway, it's just a matter of opinion whether you like them or not. I think we can just both agree that the piercing in the picture that started this discussion is stupid.

It is temporary though. Stop lying to yourself.

If it leaves a scar, or causes whatever you pierced to look different, then it's not temporary. Take for example those spacers. I'm not sure exactly how big they are allowed to get before they leave an obvious hole, but I wouldn't imagine it's too big. Even girls that wear big, heavy earrings have obvious stretching on their ears, lip and eyebrow piercings cause the part of the lip and the eyebrow to droop and look different than it was before. A scar isn't temporary.
