wait what

the smiths aren't post punk

illmitch 01-07-2010 02:22 PM

i wouldnt consider them straight post-punk, but id say they have considerable post-punk influence

Txus 01-07-2010 02:23 PM

oh yeah? then what are they?

And I think the album you're saying Moon dude is Cromagnon - Orgasm, probably the only album I haven't been able to finish.

i must hear it to believe

Txus 01-07-2010 02:34 PM

Tell me what you think about it.

Jaundice 01-07-2010 02:44 PM

The Smiths are like, a middle-ground between 80's post punk and 90's indie.

Most people seem to consider them alternative and that really seems a lot more accurate than calling them post punk.

Txus 01-07-2010 02:45 PM

**** you

Jaundice 01-07-2010 02:46 PM

And Jcs, definitely get The Raincoats' self-titled debut and Bauhaus' In The Flat Field. Essential post-punk.

Meatplow 01-07-2010 02:46 PM

Orgasm rules.

also get Public Image Ltd - Metal Box if we are talking post punk.

Jaundice 01-07-2010 02:49 PM

wait no love for joy division and bauhaus?

you're a faggot bro

and Interpol isn't post-punk, they really like it tho

Meatplow 01-07-2010 02:51 PM

a tonne of stuff has already been mentioned and whenever somebody mentions post punk I usually type out a massive list of 20 bands and give a detailed analysis, not tonight guys i'm tired from work

http://www.sputnikmusic.com/forums/showthread.php?t=580727

EMH's list here in this recent thread was surprisingly decent, and I made said post below. Research these bands and you should be well grounded in the genre.

Txus 01-07-2010 02:53 PM

Jaundice 01-07-2010 02:54 PM

Can anyone make reccomendations for me?

I like a wide range of music, but I want to find new bands to get into. I like death metal, metalcore, deathcore, hard rock, progressive rock, inde rock, maybe just a few screamo bands. I want to find bands that aren't generic and have excellent instrumental and lyrical abilities.
