i second Moss
could you guys rec me ambient/drone stuff which incorporates folk elements? similar to these Grouper - Dragging a Dead Deer Up a Hill Zelienople Aidan Baker - Scalpel / Green & Cold maybe Natural Snow Buildings reverb-drenched dreamy vocals would be nice |
welll now
http://www.fluid-radio.co.uk/2010/07/evan-caminiti-west-winds-review/ no vocals, but it's drone/americana ala earth's newer albums, but much more drone/ambient literally just posted this link in the sludge thread even tho it has nothing to do with sludge but i don't know where a drone thread is you might like the gentlemen losers too. ambient with alot of acoustic guitars, has a real dreamy and vinyl-like atmosphere to it. |
and there's all kinds of psychedelic folk/drone shit to check out. silvester anfang and pocahaunted are 2 of my faves.
perunwit and the moon lay hidden beneath a cloud is really good dark ambient/neo folk if you want to go that way |
I second Silvester Anfang and Gentlemen Losers.
Check out Psychedelic Horseshit, Xiu Xiu if you haven't already and Mark McGuire |
can't believe i forgot mark mcguire
|
I got your back
|
you need to listen to that evan caminiti dude
|
If it sounds anything like Barn Owl I'm probably going to like it. Will give it a listen later tonight, thanks.
|
will check these all out soon, thanks a lot
only one i've heard is xiu xiu, and i only preferred their poppier songs off fabulous muscles lol i read Silvester Anfang as 'silver fang' when i first saw it |
Can you guys recommend me something as dark and oppressing as Worship's Dooom?
Mournful Congregation. Earlier stuff is probably more suited to what you're looking for, but The Monad of Creation is their best work by far. |
Loss - Life Without Hope, Death Without Reason

moss wijlen wij beneath the frozen soil evoken abyssmal sorrow

Mournful Congregation. Interpol - Turn On The Bright Lights Wild Beasts - Two Dancers The Magnetic Fields - 69 Love Songs / Holiday (holiday would probably be easier to get into) Trespassers William seconded |
much appreciated. I'll be looking into all of these tomorrow.
|
can someone rec me some metal in the vein of machine head or fear factory?
|
Meshuggah is the only good one that comes to mind
|
can someone rec me some metal in the vein of machine head or fear factory?
Ministry - "The Last Sucker" (album) HEAVY as FUCK. (yes, they're technically Industrial but Al had some Metal as fuck songs on the last three Ministry releases) |
Spineshank
Static X Godflesh Ministry definitely |
Kind of an open-ended request, but can anyone recommend me really dark sounding music, does not have to be metal-based. Looking for stuff with identifiable song structures, meaning traditional frameworks. Maybe something with folk, pop or electronic touches.
Tyler you may like the upcoming band Lesser Key. They just did a record with Aaron Harris of ISIS. I listen to them on reverbnation.com/lesserkey |
What about bands in the Porcupine Tree/Tool/Oceansize mould?
I think there needs to be a category for them, somewhere inbetween prog and psychedelica.
You might like the band Lesser Key. Their drummer Justin Hanson, gets compared to Gavin Harrison and Danny Carey. Aaron Harris of the band ISIS just did their new record. Check em out... reverbnation.com/lesserkey |
New Progressive Bands
Anyone know of any good new Progressive bands out there? In the vein of tool, karnivool , Isis ?

I like the band Intronaut, they are more metal, but they are really progressive and Justin Chancellor from Tool played on their record. I like that Lesser Key band you mentioned, they are pretty sweet. |
