Dropkick Murphys started playing for fun under a friend's baber shop in Boston, MA. Infleunces are, but not limited, to **** Sparrer, Stiff Little Fingers, Wolfe Tones, The Pogues, The Clash, AC/DC. The myth behind the name is that there was once a rehab center in Boston for rich alcoholics and the place was called "Dropkick Murphys". They are incredibly loyal to their fans, which can be seen at any live show.

they have done craploads of splits and have bunches of singles. Have done split CDs with Oxymoron, the Business, Face To Face, Agnostic Front, Bruisers, Anti Heros, and the Ducky Boys.

Starting in 1996, their release of [URL=http://www.epitaph.com/bands/index.php?id=75]Do Or Die[/URL], produced by Lars Frederiksen, is perhaps the closest they have ever came to an "Oi!" sound. The starting song "Cadence To Arms"(a cheap ripoff of "Scotland the Brave") was matched with the second song on that album "Do Or Die" as their opening tunes to every live show they played up until 1999. The last song on this CD "Skinhead on the MBTA", a spin-off from the Kingston Trio's "Charlie On The MBTA", has been their closing song from the start, and still remains that way. During this song, everyone is invited on stage to sing along and just have fun. The line-up for this record was Rick Barton-Guitar, Ken Casey-Bass, Vocals, Mike McColgan-Vocals, Matt Kelly-Drums, Joe Delany-Bagpipes.

With Mike's departure, the door was left open for former [URL=http://www.thebruisers.net/]Bruisers[/URL] vocalist Al Barr to take over for the record "[URL=http://www.epitaph.com/bands/index.php?id=76]Gangs All Here[/URL]" also produced by Lars Frederiksen, released in 1999. Perhaps their most fist raising album of them all, this album marked the Al Barr and Ken Casey switch off singing that is now THE Dropkick Sound. [URL=http://www.boston.com/news/globe/obituaries/articles/2003/12/17/johnny_cunningham_helped_spark_celtic_revival/]Johnny Cunningham[/URL] played fiddle for a few songs on this album. Line up for this album is Al Barr-Vocals, Ken Casey-Bass, Vocals, Rick Barton-Guitar, Matt Kelly-Drums.

With a whole new line up for their release of [URL=http://www.epitaph.com/bands/index.php?id=78]Sing Loud Sing Proud[/URL] in 2001, they incorporated more folk into their music. Rick Barton left the band at this time, because of some cold blood between him and Ken Casey(I've also heard he left to get married, don't take my word on any of this, I suck). This is the first album that Ken produced himself, no longer was Lars coming over and sleeping on Ken's couch to produce the record. They currently play the song "Foggy Dew" by the Cheiftains as they approach the stage, and start their show off with the opening song for this record "For Boston". Line up for this album is Al Barr-Vocals, Ken Casey-Bass, Vocals, Matt Kelly-Drums, Marc Orell-Guitar, accordian, Ryan Foltz-Tin Whistle, Mandolin, Dulcimer, Spicey McHaggis-Bagpipes, James Lynch-Guitar.

In 2000 They released their old singles and live shows between the years of 1996-1997 onto one full album called "[URL=http://www.epitaph.com/bands/index.php?id=77]The Singles Collection[/URL]", Mike McColgan is the Vocalist on this album. They are releasing a singles collection volume 2 on March 8, 2005. They also released "[URL=http://www.epitaph.com/bands/index.php?id=222]Live On St. Patrick's Day[/URL]" in 2002, capturing the energy of their live show.

In 2003 Ken produced their 4th full length record "[URL=http://www.epitaph.com/bands/index.php?id=318]Blackout[/URL]". Ryan Foltz left the band on this record to work with the [URL=http://www.gc5.motelblonde.com/index2.html]the GC5[/URL] and his new band [URL=http://www.motelblonde.com]Motel Blonde[/URL] , and Spicey also left the band to get married. But luckily, Scruffy Wallace was already a bagpiper, and a Dropkick Murphys fan, and already knew their songs on pipes, so he was there to bail them out. When Woody Guthrie died he left many songs undone. The Dropkicks were contacted by the daughter of Woody Guthri encouraging them to use lyrics from his archive and create a song. They did. This song was the featured song on this album entitled "Gonna Be a Blackout Tonight". "The Dirty Glass" features guest vocalist Stephanie Doherty who is the guitar techs wife, so she tours with them. The Line up on this album is Al Barr-Vocals, Ken Casey-Bass, Vocals, Marc Orell-Guitar, Matt Kelly-Drums, Tim Brennan-accordian, mandolin, tin whistle, and guitar, Scruffy Wallace, bagpipes and James Lynch-guitar.

The Bands newest endeavor is "[URL=http://www.epitaph.com/bands/index.php?id=386]Tessie[/URL]" which pays respect to the Boston
Red Sox.

James Lynch plays and Epiphone Les Paul, Marc Orell plays a Gibson Les Paul Custom, Ken Casey plays a Fender Precision Bass, and Matt Kelly plays DW drums with ZILDJIAN cymbals.

Most of their shows are all ages, it's rare when one isn't. Deffinately go to see them live, if they are one of your favorite bands you'll love it.

dkm put on the best live show iv ever seen, like the man said during skinhead on the mbta almost the whole crowd got onstage, it was awsome

I read somewhere that Marc's car got stolen and his Gibson Custom was in that car, with his '52 guitar pickups, so I don't know if he got a new Gibson or what.

I don't think they have any tourdates currently scheduled right now other than the ones on their site. They probably won't be touring the states again until summertime, or at least after St Patricks day I would assume.

Yep, i realised that was intefering. Their best songs are Good Rats, Gauntlet, and then Barroom Hero with the old singer. Their other songs don't do too much for me

they had a different drummer on the boys on the dock EP, i cant wait till march 18th, im going to see em and it was great last year too wen i saw em around st pattys.
the occasinol bass from tim is played in skinhead on the mbta so ken can surf the crowd with the mic, it was awesome when i saw em back in september and ken was flyin around.

Yes, yes I know(the bass part). I know that the drummer from the street dogs played with them for a bit, maybe it was him on that album?
