Digitech Death Metal Pedal
I just bought a Digitech Death Metal Pedal and played a gig with it. I was blown away. With the level set at a quarter-way it blew away the second guitarist's Boss Distortion Pedal that was set at 3/4-way. They were plugged into a 100 watt peavey. If that Digitech pedal had the level turned up any more it would of blown windows out.
Ratings: Distortion- 5/5 The best and loudest distortion ever. Mostly for Hardcore. Tone- 5/5 Has a great HEAVY METAL tone Not intended for anything else. Looks- 4/5 Looks good but to plain black, the grunge pedal looks cooler Overall- 5/5 AWESOME PEDAL |
I'm deciding whether to buy this or the Boss Metalzone. Which one would you recomend?
|
Definately this pedal, I've heard them both and the Metal Zone is just a digtized sounding piece of crap :thumb:
|
Would you pick this over Metal Master?
|
the mt-2 is "better" but id just not waist my money on a distortion pedal. thiers no point.
|
The Metal Master is one of if not the best distortion pedal you can buy, but if the Death Metal Pedal is as good as he says it is you could probably go with that because its only like 40 or 50 bucks.

That's funny that you think that the Metal Zone sounds digital, because its 100% analog circutry. Anyway, the Metal Zone is more versatile, but the Death Metal has an insane crunch to it...try em out thats all I can say. |

Wrong. It is the digitech pedals which have software based modelling and distortion, and the MT-2 which is analog, and gives that great analog sound the digitech's can't touch. As for the metal master, that pedal is ONLY good for power chords, thats it. Anything else ( minor chords, fast solos, etc) sounds like muddy garbage. DC |
I beg to differ. I hate the death metal in comparison to the Metalzone. I like the broader sound you can get with the Metalzone. It has a much more expansive equalizer and get's the middle tones much better. The Death Metal sounds way too digital for my taste. I will say though that it is easier to make the Metalzone sound crappy but it can also sound much better.

The Death Metal is analog too...maybe you're confusing it with the Metal Master (which is digital)but anyway....the grunge is better imo....read my review. It's my first post in the Digitech Grunge thread. |
ive had an mt-2 for some time now, it even sounded good on my first guitar. an argos encore setup, now i have a vintage SG and a H||H ic100 amp and it sounds amazing. i think DIGItech kinda says its not really an analogue pedal to me
|
the digitech death metal looks really good to me, i'm torn between that and the boss mt 2
|
I like it beter then the metal master.
|
If you like the digitech death metal pedal, you may want to try the DOD death metal (FX86, or FX86B). I tried the digitech... It was awesome, sure, but you can't get enough of a crunch from it. Just a swelling type of distortion... the DOD offers a bit of both. I recomend the digitech if you would like a sound that is a bit more towards the metal side, but the DOD is more original in sound, and you'd find that the DOD can be made to sound like distortions for many different genres. Traditional metal, for one, punk, and others. Just give it a try.

I heard death metal is all just fuzz, especially when you turn the gain down. and metal zone pwnz all!!!! im buying a metal zone. |
Metal Master- Digitalized
Metal Zone- Digitalized, but Very Nice Death Metal- Analog, A Tad weak Grunge- Analog, Nice Distorntion L@@K at the boss mega distortion |
Same here I love this thing.
|
I tried it out and it sounded like sh*t, really all I could see this kind of distortion fit for is boosting the hell out of solos, and for complete noobs...

By the MXR Doulbe shot Distortion I got it and works good
|
I've played the Digi Death Metal pedal, and I honestly thought that it was a little too much. Even if you get the volume and the distortion, is it worth no one being able to hear your notes? I use a Boss MetalZone as a boost for my Marshall, and it's nothing insane, but you can certainly tell what I'm playing, and it's very decent distortion.
|
Sod all of them and get an Ibanez SM-7 smashbox and an EQ pedal.
|
this pedal has no gain dial, no?
therefore it is useless, no? |
i have it and its OK can anyone tell me some good settings
|
Be a little more specific.
|
yeah i used one.. seemed really staticky n ****......
but then again i probably just set it up all wrong for my taste of sound  |
Hot Head or Grunge by Digitech are better.
|
i just baught a death metal pedal or myself and i would recomend it for soloing
|
I Bought a Boss MT-2 Metal Zone today which i will be returning tommorow. The guy who sold it to me told me it was an awsome pedal and bla bla bla. When i plugged it into my amp it was nothing but horrible noise. it sounded like an airplane was taking off in my amp. The output and crunch went over the top to a very hot sound, but it just couldnt sustain that and not be noisy. I mean it was so noisy even when i wasnt playing it and turned my guitar knobs down. The only way it sounded decent was when i used lower volume but even then it was bad. Anyone else have any recomendations which are not the Metal zone, death metal , or grunge pedals??

assuming you have adistortion pedal already any low gain overdrive/dist. dunlop sells alot of good examples (zw overdrive)or something like an ibanez tube screamer....or just swich to the overdrive channel in your amp if you are so blessed as to have one |
forget everything and buy a hughs and kettner warp factor

Metalzone owns all other pedals |
I had the boss metalzone mt-2. the only reason i sold it was because i got a new multiefects pedal, otherwise i woulda kept it. I have to say that it is one of the best distortion pedals that i have ever heard. If anybody has the choice between this and any other pedals, this is well worth it.
i have it and its OK can anyone tell me some good settings
The booklet that comes with it has some cool settings. I went into my local guitar shop on Monday with the intention to buy a Boss Mega Distortion and left with the Death Metal. It has a deeper, crunchier sound compared to the Mega Distortion. I'm been satisfied with it so far... Metal Zones are too digital sounding in my opinion. I like them, just not what I want to sound like. |
Both pedals are nice.
The Metalzone pedal has a nice overall tone but the distortion is too digital, as some have said, as if it's too soft to be called distortion. The Death Metal pedal doesn't have as much as a good overall tone but you can get one by messing around with the equalizer until you get one. I myself have this pedal and have found a couple of good tones but for a heavy yet sharp distorted sound that cuts through like a bitch I put Low at 9, Mid just a tad above 8, and High at 9. It's a really good tone. Anyway, I'd reccommend the Death Metal pedal just because it's versatile and you can get a lot of tones out of it. \m/ |
I've got a Metal zone - and it's true that it makes some noise, but not much, and a bit of fiddling around with the EQ works wonders. Plus, i don't think i've listened to enough distortion pedals to discriminate between whether a effect sounds too 'digital' or not - but personally, for what I play, I think the Metal Zone is fantastic. I've never tried the Digitech Death Metal, so i might try it out soon. But - i wouldn't reccomend the DOD Death metal distortion - i tried it once and it made so much noise it was unbearable, and the sound was too fuzzy anyway.
For those who own the Metal Zone, i suggest this setting - Level - alter this how you want it. Low - as far as it will turn clockwise High - pointing directly at 3 o'clock Middle Freq - As far as it will turn clockwise Middle pointing - directly at 3 o'clock Dist - MAX. You know it's the right thing to do. |
the digitech death metal pedal is amazing, i strongly suggest that if your into grunge do not buy it as it is called death metal for a very good reason!!!!!!!
i use mine with emg 81 pickups and a boss noise supressor for high volume, and it gives an amazing metal tone, i did cast aside my boss metal zone as soon as i tried this pedal thats how good it is. |
