SheenaShiva 05-02-2012 12:29 AM

umm none of this stuff is shoegaze

jesus and mary chain, mazzy star, cocteua twins (overlapping with dream pop territory), my bloody valentine, slow dive

kitsch 05-02-2012 10:49 AM

i like dead can dance

not really shoegaze but darkwave really

cbmartinez 05-02-2012 06:24 PM

really lush and the telescopes arent shoegaze thanks dude

voodooramen 05-07-2012 07:18 PM

Starflyer 59s Gold, Silver, and Americana. I never really enjoyed much other shoegaze bands. Jesus and Mary Chain's first two albums are great but I have a hard time calling them shoegaze, maybe a shoegaze prototype if anything.

SugarCoatedSour 05-07-2012 08:09 PM

definitely a genre I've plumbed.

All those mentioned are great and tie into the genre.

The Swirlies - Blonder Tongue Audio Baton (one of me absolute favorites)
Swervedriver - Mezcalhead (showing a bit of the extremes of the genre)
Moose - XYZ (a great shoegaze band turned UKpop, just with a very nice sweeping clean sound

absolutely love The Pale Saints
The Telescopes I'd been turned onto recently and they have a sort of bluesy touch to their instrumentation giving it a truly clean shimmer. Clearly showing the imperatives between bands that predominantly use effects to shape their sound vs. bands that work their sound in-studio...and MBV being a great bridge for that moat. Sonic Youth can be considered shoegaze in one way or another.

Radial Spangle - Syrup Macrame (great shoegaze album with a slightly mushroomy ambiance instilled in the production)

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=4YSzW8hwHfs a pop gem.

steerage 05-14-2012 05:16 PM

swirlies are excellent, although blonder tongue ain't my favourite by them (still great tho).

in terms of my favourite, probably the pale saints. three fuckin' sweet records they had.

joeker19lc 05-14-2012 09:20 PM

Nowhere by Ride is one of my favorite albums, I also like some of Deerhunters Shoegazer stuff

trippedhimself 05-17-2012 02:46 PM

ride is the shit.

teenager on the internet 05-18-2012 02:36 PM

I've really enjoyed all the shoegaze I've heard. I'll look up all the artists you all mentioned, I'd love to hear more of it.

vegebacon 06-05-2012 01:38 PM

Catherine Wheels Ferment and Chrome are classic shoeegaze albums. Amusement Parks on Fire are a great new shoegaze band as well.

vegebacon 06-05-2012 01:48 PM
really lush and the telescopes arent shoegaze thanks dude
The first two Lush albums Spooky and Split are shoegazey, went more indie with Lovelife though.

Ventriloquist 06-06-2012 11:17 AM

new Whirr album is so cool listening the shit out of it.

vegebacon 06-06-2012 07:45 PM
ride is the shit.
Yeah Rides Nowhere was the first shoegaze album i heard. Got it when it was released back in 1990. They were also one of the best live bands i have seen .Saw them many times, supported by Slowdive The Verve Mercury Rev] Great Band.

vegebacon 06-06-2012 08:18 PM
first alcest album is good but other than that f this genre
Alcest are indeed a musically shoegaze band, but with a harder edge vocal. Great band though. French to .:rolleyes:

akimbo 07-27-2012 04:23 AM

i like ghastly city sleep, if that counts

teenager on the internet 07-27-2012 03:43 PM

they most definitely are and yes they rule. my only gripe with the genre (and most others) is that there are very few bands actually pushing creativity and most bands just want to sound like slowdive or the jesus and mary chain which is cool if you like that stuff but i personally dig bands that aren't afraid and skilled enough to blend it with something different and move it forward or else we're just going to fall into some weird 90's wormhole and who really wants that
