Biography:
Minor Threat formed in November of 1980 in Washington DC. They consisted of four members: Ian MacKaye on vocals, Brian Baker on bass, Lyle Preslar on guitar and Jeff Nelson on drums. These skateboarding kids would soon go on to change the face of music to come. On the album "Out of Step", Steve Hansgen played bass and Brian Baker played guitar. In September 1981, Minor Threat broke up when Lyle decided to go to college.
During this time, Ian and Jeff started a new band called Skewbald/Grand Union, who also kicked ***. This band broke up when Minor Threat reformed in April 1982. Minor Threat broke up for good in 1983. Minor Threat also changed the world with the Straight Edge movement which has affected thousands of kids all over the world. They are also the band that got me into hardcore punk.
Minor Threat is said to be one of the most influential bands of all time leading in the start of hardcore music and unknowingly creating the straight edge scene which satrted form the MT song Straight Edge. After Minor Threat Ian's newer bands led way into the Emo (Emotional Hardcore) scene.

Good review, for definitely one of the most influential bands.

NakedRaygun872 08-23-2004 12:35 PM

Good job, I didn't know one of them was in Dag Nasty, awesome band aswell.

Let's Chop Cats! 08-23-2004 12:36 PM

Yeah Brian Baker is. Last time I heard (which was awhile ago) Brian still played for them.

JmE 08-23-2004 12:37 PM

Which reminds me, who was/is in Bad Religion? So sue me if I'm a totally clueless idiot.

Let's Chop Cats! 08-23-2004 12:37 PM

Brian Baker, joined Bad Religion around 96, and since then has started taking part in the writing process of BR's newer albums.

NakedRaygun872 08-23-2004 12:37 PM

Baker was in it.

PoisonParadox 08-23-2004 12:38 PM

Good job Reiney

Der Übermensch 08-23-2004 01:01 PM

Embrace is a great band... check em out too

but Isn't it amazing that a band who released less than an hour of music is such an influential one in punk, starting a whole sub-movement?

Let's Chop Cats! 08-23-2004 01:16 PM

They branched off the Ramones idea (simple guitar work and such), but added meaning to the lyrics (as opposed to Being sedated and punk rockers).

He said that in the profile -
" On the album "Out of Step", Steve Hansgen played bass and Brian Baker played guitar. In September 1981, Minor Threat broke up when Lyle decided to go to college. "

i didn't know they started the straight edge movement on accident, cool

Let's Chop Cats! 08-23-2004 03:52 PM

Ian never ment it to turn into what it is today. He used it more of a metaphor to represent what he stood for at the time. To my knowledge he's not even edge.
i didn't know they started the straight edge movement on accident, cool
No it's very uncool becuase now we have these militant a'ssholes running around kicking the s'hit out of anyone with a cigarette or a beer.

$bassline$ 08-23-2004 04:00 PM

that does suck...

gluesniffer 08-23-2004 04:23 PM

Exactly.

You ever get a chance to see them? Sorry I don't know how old you are, just that your older than all of us.

Two of my teachers saw them in a basement. Also one of them toured with bands like them Nomeansno and others.
