Alkaline Trio - Goodbye Forever
The Ataris - Teenage Riot
Green Day - When I Come Around

These songs arent exactly begginer songs. You should give them a try after a good 4 or 5 months of playing.
lol i dont play bass but i already can play teenage riot and anti-flag stuff. maybe it's cause i'm a guitar player or maybe i have a nack for bass guitar. which is it?

Scooch 10-29-2004 01:42 PM

Led Zeppelin Dazed and Confused

Riovanne 10-30-2004 12:03 AM

I can play pretty much all of the Rage songs I've looked at without too much of a hassle, but I can't figure out the technique to Take the Power Back. Anyone with some measure of skill care to clarify on that one?

Yeah, I know the tabs, but I'm wondering about the actual technique of playing the song. It sounds kinda slap/pop to me, but I just can't figure it out. No matter how many times I've played the song through, I can't get the same sound and feel.

Wintermute 11-03-2004 05:27 PM

It is slap/pop. Tim C has a very unique sound, partly because he makes his own pickups, but that's the technique, at least.

pos_bassist 11-04-2004 08:16 PM

Is there a place on the internet that I can find all of these songs so I can hear them? It's kind of hard to learn them if I can't hear them. I used to have Kazaa but that screwed up my computer big time so I don't have that anymore. Any suggestions of a place I can listen to them at would be appreciated, thanks.

wally the wombat 11-06-2004 01:40 PM

Lol, the first song i actually learned to play all the way through was the YTSE jam by Dream Theater I think it is a good beginner song ( but the solo is HARD)

resurrectionbassist 11-06-2004 07:22 PM

Red Hot Chili Peppers Higher Ground is not that difficult and sounds really cool.
Metallica's Seek and Destroy easy good open notes and hammer ons practice
Pantera's Walk easy good practice on timing
Nirvana any song of theirs

angry armadillo 11-09-2004 10:27 AM

The Hives - Main offender - easy, almost moderate - gets a begginer moving their fingers around :thumb:

Grondahl 11-11-2004 12:49 PM

Invisible Touch by Genesis has got a pretty cool and fun bassline. Some of the faster fills may be a little tricky for an absolute beginner, though.

Also:
At last, my genius is recognised .

Anyway, here's my contribution:

Jeff Buckley - Last Goodbye - Easy, but hella fun and incredibly catchy
Jeff Buckley - Grace - Easy
Jeff Buckley - Dream Brother - Easy
Jeff Buckley - Forget Her - Easy
Jeff Buckley - Mojo Pin - This and the two above it are great examples of awesome phrasing
Yes - Roundabout - Easy
Muse - Time Is Running Out - Easy
Tim Buckley - No Man Can Find The War - Easy

Jeff Buckley - Eternal Life (the rocked up version) - Moderate
Muse - Hysteria - Moderate
Primus - Groundhog's Day - Pretty easy chording/slap practise
RHCP - Higher Ground - Slap practise
This guy knows where it's at :thumb:

You aren't fooling anyone, Mr. Fozworth.

twenty.five.to.five 11-11-2004 07:32 PM

i've provided comments for all these :)

anti-flag - drink drank punk

fairly easy, good to learn finger posistion when playing that quick transistion 345 i think it is

lostprophets - shinobi vs dragon ninja

fairly easy again, has good time variations of the same riff. also teaches some stuff on creating the breathing noise from going up and down continously

mxpx - chick magnet

good to learn some hammer ons.

system of a down - the metro

good timing variations and learning of riff changes

once your a lil better... try these

ataris - teenage riot

pretty long riff. nice to play

choking victim - in my grave

nice ska line

bigwig - falling down

nice intro...

if you are bored and want to play some real easy songs:

machine head - from this day
green day - brain stew
troggs - wild thing
system of a down - prison song
choking victim - f**ked reality

heres something that worked for me.. not sure if it'll work for u. i started playing a heap of punk songs first... then moved to more metal stuff. the punk stuff i could play nearly everything and it laid some good ground work to get into harder stuff.

hope i was of some use. i am still a beginner/intermediate player myself.

ROM 11-14-2004 01:28 PM
I should also mention that any song by Van Halen is easy as balls on bass.
not every song of Van Halen is easy to play

Grondahl 11-15-2004 01:17 PM
You aren't fooling anyone, Mr. Fozworth.
Actually, I probably was until you stuck your nose in

Besides, all I was doing was referring the best post in the thread to anyone who missed it. That post just happened to be made by me, that's all...

And to make this post relevant to the thread, more cool, fun, easy basslines:

Genesis - I Know What I Like (In Your Wardrobe)

Jeff Buckley - Everybody Here Wants You - Really easy, smooth bassline.

And one of the easiest basslines ever (for most of the song, anyway):

Genesis - Mama
