only the name , really.
although I suppose the fact that they're from the same city as Can might have looked suspicious. |
I'm looking for recommendations in the PE dept. More so these newer groups that are poppy up- I've been digging Twodeadsluts and Cathode Terror. Just came across Yellow Tears whom I'm enjoying a lot as well.
I guess I'm looking for PE with more "metal/hardcore" vocals, or maybe just more vocal oriented PE. I don't know how to get across what I'm saying. Any help? |
Brethren - Savage Inequalities
Brighter Death Now - Obsessis Whitehouse - Great White Death give these three a shot |
Thanks. I actually picked up that Brethren one recently, but haven't given it enough of an ear. Haven't heard of Brighter Death Now- I'll definitely look into that one.
|
No worries.
Clock DVA's first LP Thirst is surprisingly post punk as **** |
yeah i remember it being post-punky, i never gave it a proper listen tho
|
Listening to Black Swan Network's only album, The Late Music.
This is some really solid ambient / sound collage, not like what you'd expect from basically and Olivia Tremor Control / Neutral Milk Hotel side project. |
NMH have side projects?
there better be an OST for this Tetsuo The Iron Man, its soundtrack was really good |
It's more of an Olivia Tremor Control side project that anything, but there's at least a couple NMH guys in there as is typical.
It's some "experimental / post rock" with a good bit of industrial sounding noise here and there, you'd probably find much to like about it |
in a similar case i have never listened to the band Showbread before but one of their members did a release with his side project DIES called Aesthetics of Violence which was quite impressive
|
yeah I don't think I've ever really listened to Olivia Tremor Control, beyond maybe a song or two

you know an industrial song has gone too far when Dave Matthews covers it |
Listened to Harry Pussy for the first time today. Good stuff.
|
i'll check them out, I could use some more noise rock
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=baEiu2NCDek i've been listening to this Brainbombs track a fair bit |
wow i wasnt sure what to expect from this richard thomas album but its pretty awesome. this does a better job of describing it than i could.
Rather odd and wonderful offering from 1999 on the excellent Leaf Label. Richard Thomas has definitely got a good grasp of the terms 'weird' and 'wrong', but he keeps it pretty low key on this album; unless you turn it up loud, I suppose. This is like Blue Jam sublimated into purely musical form. Over an often fairly down to earth premise - a shuffling drum beat, say, a whole load of queasily played horns lurch around in a monged fashion over lots of processed samples and unsettling noises. The attention to detail is terrific, but the profound weirdness of it all could easily pass you by, as the general sound is often one that approaches a kind of easy listening - trumpets parp, guitars are strummed, drums are drummed; on 'Manicougan 5', for example - but they are played like a band whose members are on different planets, so to speak. It took me a while to get a handle on this album, and then it suddenly all became clear: what an unhinged master Richard Thomas is. Some of it certainly reminds me of Mike & Rich - Expert Knob Twiddlers, but these tracks are far more freeform in structure, and fade in and out of a hazy, muddy ambience. With extra jazz noodling.
|
Sounds interesting, what is the name of the album though?
|
NMH have side projects?

soggy martyrs its on that blog i told you about the other day |
I'll check it out.
Yeah, I have it. It's pretty cool.
I didn't like the film all that much but the music contributed a lot to it's atmosphere. It also made me realise I can't think of a whole lot of other films off the top of my head that have noise soundtracks. :/ I'll have to do some research. |
omg someone please explain how i can find the most obscure albums in the world but i cannot find depeche modes violator?

it was in a little summary by the references part. there was also some foolishness about him getting a body guard and going to a conference, poisoning the food and then lighting dead rodents on fire while the guard made sure no one left. |
