Ab-Soul - Control System
Not impressed with Ab-Soul at all really. Probably the least interesting member of Black Hippy. 6 out of 17 tracks are actually listenable for me.
damn this cat can get real boring and monotone after a while. okay singer. beats are pretty bad overall. |
He was at the Schoolboy Q show I went to and his performance was pretty good. I've yet to listen to him though but I will check out his latest work
that ab-soul new LP is really boring as hell, heard around 10 track on youtube almost fell asleep
i feel like both schoolboy q and lamar are excellent (lamar a bit more interesting overall). jay rock's style is dope too, pretty hardcore. but ab-soul is the odd man out, solid but only good for a few verses as a guest.
ab-soul's last mixtape is pretty fuckin good
actually digging this
i listened all day today. bumping it up .5 stars to a 3.5... it's not on the level of RAP Music which is why i automatically was like meh... but still solid. i just dont find myself coming back to anything except 2 or 3 tracks
dude it is rap music
crap music
back down to 3 :[
Control is a 2.5 at best for me the beats are so damn boring and he rarely catches a good flow.
yeah he has a lot of trouble keeping his style consistent... almost sounds like he's trying to sound like other rappers all the time.
solid singer though |
This isn't boring, it's better than section 80 not as good as habits and contradictions though.
^^pretty much the opposite of what I think (except I too don't find this boring at all)
section 80 is a pretty fucking good record
I think it's over rated but still pretty fucking fantastic, but lets be honest jay rock is by far the weakest from black hippy , I think kendrick,Q and soul are on the same level. Well Kendrick might be the best just he has not released something that does him complete justice yet, Cartoon and Cereal is fucking amazing
soul is good, this is good.

I think Ab-Soul is talented, but has a bad ear for beats. Lamar is the best, then Q / Soul, then Jay Rock. Album wise, Section.80 was my favorite, then Q's stuff and Jay Rock, then Soul

Kendrick is FAR above ab-soul and schoolboy Q let's be honest here |
For me the beats accent Ab-Souls rapping, they're smooth with the odd more exciting beat like terrorist threats or SOPA. I think Ab-Soul works well with the jazzy samples and quieter percussion to give him freedom for his flow. Ab-Soul is a lyrical rapper for sure and I think that over powers the need for the kind of beats that stand out. Obviously stand out beats make an album better, but think about section 80 it had the same kind of jazzy samples and quiet percussion. If anything TDE production crew has improved since then.

does anybody know what the "sopa" samples? it's really hard i like it a lot
