Why do Rush have working washing machines on stage?
 

In a number of videos of Rush, i've seen them with washing machines on stage, why?

They are dryers and they are normally full of tshirts.

Because Geddy uses preamps directly to the PA and his in-ear monitors, and doesn't need/use conventional amps anymore. The dryers, etc, are more or less to mock guitarists.

Mocking someone for using an amp? How silly.

I belive the question is why not

Look on Rush's website... go to Geddy's portion of the site. Then view the videos with Geddy and a small terrier. It will tell you why there.

It's mocking the usual wall of amps most guitarists have nowadays, not the use of a single amp.

yes, like you said, Geddy uses a cab simulator, and it's just to have a laugh at guitarists with their huge walls of Hughes and Kettner Amps :lol:

For that really good clean tone. I seriously thought that geddy didn't want to fire his roadies after getting his new rig so he payed them to carry those around.

When I went to see Yngwie, he had 5 stacks, and used only 2 of them.

Only 2 were even turned on!

That do that sort of thing all the time. Most of the cabs at warped tourare nothing more than empty boxes.

I've seen a cool thing on a DT DVD where they crowd surf a fake amp right to the back of the room, it's cool.

I don't understand why they have empty cabs. For show to make them look cool or something?

i always thought the driers acted sort of like timers for their set. someone told me once that when they first started in their garage they just used the clothes drier, so it's kind of a tribute, although i'm not sure of the accuracy of that

Well, when I went to Gigantour, Dillenger Escape Plan had a couple empty cabs and an empty monitor enclosure. The monitor enclosure got thrown around by their vocalist, and the cabs were being jumped off of and knocked over by their guitarists and bassist. So, maybe it's just for stage crazyness?

Because Geddy is a very, very sweaty man.

It is clever and subtle commentary on image driven rock music because it satirizes that most, if not all, amps one sees on big rock stages these days don't have any other purpose but looking cool.

somethign like that. I saw a slayer dvd (my friend was watching it, i hate slayer) and i just laughed at the gigantic wall of marshall stacks behind them. There were like 30,000 of them. It's for show, thats it.

Got to have them hot towels.........................
