Go buy some Wuhan Splash cymbals.

I have alot of splash cymbals and I have heard hundreds of these things over the years. I just bought an 8" and a 12" Wuhan Splash cymbals and they are of the same quality as cymbals that are hundreds of dollars. Don't hesitate you are getting way more than you're moneys worth, trust me. Everyone should go and buy some.

You can find them on ebay for very cheap, very regularly. I bought mine there for $18 each, as a package of 2, and shipping was $10, so they cost me $23 each after shipping.

Same with chinas...

I got a 16 and 18 for $40 - considering I spent more than $100 for my AA, and the 18" Wuhan was the choice for recording, you really can't go wrong (unless you buy one of the ones that explode after 3 days...)

Great value for the money, those Wuhans are.

sLarkin20 03-07-2008 03:55 PM

I am a much bigger fan of their "effect" type cymbals, like their splashes and chinas, then I am of the other ones like crashes and hi-hats. Maybe it's just their cheap price or something, but I'd take a Wuhan splash or china over almost any other brand. Not so much on their rides/crashed/hi-hats though.

Panopticon 03-07-2008 05:21 PM

the only wuhan i have that i slightly like is the 16" china i have that is cracked and has big gaping holes in it.

I like it because it sounds like a stack...is that a bad sign for wuhan?

lmldrummer 03-07-2008 06:40 PM

i don't think anything's a bad sound for a wuhan tbh

billdrum 03-07-2008 08:23 PM

I recorded some audio a while back featuring my 18" Wuhan China and my 8" and 12" Wuhan splashes. I'll post it again here so peeps can hear what they sound like.

I've got a few [20" Ride, 8"/10"/12" Splashes and a 12" China], they're great.

Unfortunately, part of the reason they are cheaper is because they are NOT of the same quality as those from the bigger companies. The bronze is not of as high a quality and the manufacturing techniques and production steps are not as highly refined. This can be seen in the reduced durability of these cymbals overall.

Dont get me wrong, they are awesome cymbals for what you get, but to say they are the same quality as those that cost twice the price is not correct.

ant_182 03-08-2008 04:33 AM

I'd love to try them out though. I'm more than happy with my oriental china. I want some more effects cymbals though, like another china or ozone/a custom effex crashes

sLarkin20 03-08-2008 12:49 PM

I wouldn't agree either that they are of more "quality" then the more expensive cymbals, but their sound quality is on par with those more expensive ones, in my opinion. I'd much rather pay 20-30 dollars for a china instead of hundreds more for a sound that is very comparable.

from what ive heard, i would never buy wuhans online.

Used wuhans. If you get them from one of those ebay companies then they're fine.

I gotta say I love Wuhan's china cymbals. Going to the store to pick one of these cymbals out is like an adventure. They are insanely cheap so regardless of where you go the store always has a stack 5 feet high of these in all different sizes. The best part is setting up a stand and hitting them all and listening to how different they all sound. The range of sound between the cymbals regardless of size is pretty incredible, and I haven't had one break yet :o

Panopticon 03-11-2008 08:41 PM

imo wuhans are pretty terrible.

The splashes have absolutely no presence. They sound so weak, as you can hear in bill's audio. I can see how some people may like the chinas, but they're not my thing at all. TOO trashy, too quick, too blech.

i haven't tried any hats, crashes or rides.

Aaron 03-11-2008 09:15 PM

I disagree; their splashes are great. I'd prefer mine over HH/As anyday.

Verdas 03-11-2008 10:21 PM

I got a remote hat, and I want to get some cheap hats for it. Aaron, have you tried the Wuhan hats? I am curious if they sound decent?

Aaron 03-11-2008 11:06 PM

Nope, sorry; not tried hats or crashes.

Seafroggys 03-13-2008 11:42 AM

I have a 12" splash, absolutly love it, gives me the sound I'm looking for.

SkaRabbit 04-23-2008 01:46 AM

Buy 2 wuhan splashes 10" splashes. Put them together like hihats and you have an awesome effect hihat. i have these as spares on my kit.

Me too. I've been using mine for years as a primary crash (oddly enough) just cuz I can't afford a "real" crash. I love the sound of it, and mine sounds a lot different than what billdrum posted. I also have a 12" china that came bundled with the crash for like $30 which sounds decent.

TheBigMachine 04-29-2008 05:15 AM

I'm definitely going to be buying some of these. I recently cracked a my eons old pst 3 - im broke as anything though. Natural choice until I get a job --> wuhan. Besides that, I need some more effects cymbals.

Inkstar 04-29-2008 06:22 PM

I love Wuhan. Their splashes and china's are great. I've got an 18" China that sounded fantastic, then it cracked, and it still sounds awesome. Very trashy and quick, as you'd expect, but I'm still able to utilize it in my kit brilliantly.

Unforunately I haven't tried out their hats and crashes yet, but I do plan on it.

Wuhan's are such amazing value for money.

MonorailCat 05-19-2008 12:00 PM

I'm gonna look into the 8" Splash.
Wuhan are pretty overrated... try out a k custom china and then compare...

If you are breaking them you suck at having any sort of touch, though
i think what people are saying is they arent intended to even match or surpass the higher brand of cymbals, but they sound great for what they are, and because of the shape of chinas they take a hell of a beating and will eventually crack regardless of finesse if you really want to open the tone of the cymbal, and because of the lower quality materials they will definitely crack before a k,z, or a,...if you cannot afford a higher brand at the time a wuhan is a great way to go...

Aaron 12-28-2009 06:30 PM

Wuhans are great for the price and I still use my 12" splash regularly.

fishbulb 12-29-2009 12:50 PM

I still use the 18" china i got for $15. Thank you MF stupid deal of the day!

sLarkin20 12-29-2009 02:40 PM

same here.

I bought that 12" splash early 2005 (I was still in high school), still works great to this day! Paid about $13 for it.

Alan Death 02-15-2010 06:51 PM

I love the 18 and 20 chinas, those things are beasts.

Wuhan cymbals are manufactured by a Chinese factory that also produces, among other things, metal shaped for the assembly of tractors and other farm machinery.
