- Yeah, thanks to Woodstock.
he was still doing really well even before TDS though PHM and broken/fixed did quite well TDS wasn't ahead of its time i think it was just right the mtv promotion would have not worked at all if it was ahead of its time fragile however now that album is wayyyyyy ahead of its time STILL |
Would Grace by Jeff Buckley count? It was recieved fairly averagely when it was released, but is hailed as one of the best albums of the 90's now, and has been hugely influential.

I think you need to go look at some NIN history. He wasn't doing that great, NIN was still considered ultra-underground when TDS came out. Hell, Trent even apologised when he handed over TDS to Interscope, telling them it would a commercial nightmare (little did he know). In several interviews Trent talks about playing tiny clubs and then selling out arenas literally overnight beacuse of the delayed success of TDS. ...anyway, TDS trumps The Fragile, which is still a monster of an album, and Trent desperatly needs to release a 5.1 mix of that. I want that more then a new NIN album. Lets just agree that T-Rez is brilliant. ;) |
Hey gice,
Velvet. Underground. |
umm are you kidding me i was the biggest nin fanboy ever i had like 3 books about the band
|
umm are you kidding me i was the biggest nin fanboy ever i had like 3 books about the band
Me too! Did one include the one of T-rez and the band on the cover, with T-rez hair in (sorta) dreds (PHM era NIN) with a dark purple headband? That book was cool... I wonder if I still have it... |
haha yeah
i gave my entire nin collection (entire discography up to AATCHB) to a good friend |

Possibly...great album, though. |
Hello friends.
I feel no need to add to this thread, you guys are nailin' it. |
haha yeah
i gave my entire nin collection (entire discography up to AATCHB) to a good friend
WTF?! |
hehe yeah
had every video and cd and single imaginable pretty awesome |
Someone prolly already said it, but Pink Floyd, their sound quality in the 70's can rival many bands today, and they were masters at using the limited equipment they had to still produce what they wanted to make futuristic sounds and stuff.
And my second choice is YES, they just sound ahead of their time, and Close To The Edge is like the best prog. rock song and album. |
Yeah...I can definitely support Close to the Edge. Great Album.
Also...I don't think it matters whether or not the album sold well upon its release. The point is that the band/album/song/musician didn't sound generic at that point. It means that regardless how popular the album or band was that it had a unique sound and didn't get lost in a sea of sound-alikes. Many people say they are influenced by pink floyd, but no one sounds like them. |
Another artist to concider: Bob Dylan
|
The Microphones
*walks away into the sunset* |
Tool, Pink Floyd, King Crimnson, early NIN and Rob Zombie (White Zombie era) Neil Young (think grunge) Helter Skelter era Beatles, Frank Zappa, The Who, Steve Vai
|
/slap
/kick to the groin in defense of Zeppelin.... Houses of The Holy (the album) and Presence by Zep are both way ahead of their times. Queen, Rush, Zep, Van Halen, Jeff Beck |
Argh creepy stuff, I was readin you two talking about NIN and my Trent Reznor poster fell from the wall on to me after years have been stuck there untouched.
|
What about Starless and Bible Black? I have listened to the album so much.
SaBB is a good album, Fracture is fucking amazing. I remember a few years ago when I dedicated my summer to learning that one song. I didn't have it down until November that year... |
Bass Funk 5000: A Funk Oddessey.
Slap bass yeah? Cause any other bass is just make [Cher sound effect]believe[/Cher sound effect]. Actually, Cher, bare before her time with that sound effect. |
Im gonna say Rush, King Crimson and Dillinger Escape Plan
and Porcupine tree |
Porcupine Tree is awesome but it doesn't really seem to be ahead of it's time. They just have almost nonexistent advertising.
|
Oh, can't forget Oceansize and Blackfield.
|
Slap bass yeah? Cause any other bass is just make [Cher sound effect]believe[/Cher sound effect].
Actually, Cher, bare before her time with that sound effect.
Well it's hard to keep an eye on all 5000 of them, but we try. |
Joy Division
