I've been campaigning for you to be mod for months.

True story.

Clockman89 04-05-2007 02:24 AM

Hey, finally a post that's not complaining about something.

Long time reading, first time asker. I've got a question about multi-sectioned songs(example: Green Day's "Jesus of Suburbia," and "Homecoming") where it's like five songs put together into one larger bit.

I've been working on a few of them, and I'd like to bounce the lyrics to them off of people here, but I didn't want to seem like I was just trying to "get around" rules. It's seriously intended to be one multi-sectioned song, but I don't want to rub people the wrong way and think I'm a jerk.

So what's the thoughts on this? Do I perhaps have to crit one song for at least each section?

TojesDolan 04-05-2007 02:26 AM

If it's über long probably it'll be full of one-liner comment,s that's why I prefer to section even the long songs. But if you want to do it go ahead. :)

It's not like people care about this section of the forums anymore. :(

Clockman89 04-07-2007 01:35 AM

It's blasphemy that there's not more action around here... Truely is.

So question two; Is this forum strictly for just posting lyrics for critiquing or could a topic possibly consist of a discussion about certain items of interest? Like, concept albums or something. (cough, no I don't have anything specific in mind, what would make you think that?!, cough)

TojesDolan 04-07-2007 02:07 AM

No man, you can talk about pretty much anything, as long as it involves lyrics/poetry/books whatever, but we try to keep things music related/word related, for purpose sake.

You can use community thread for anything else you want to talk about.

Otherwise it's an open forum.

Clockman89 04-07-2007 03:00 AM

Is it alright to create a topic purely for the discussion, or am I to restrict it to the Community Thread?

TojesDolan 04-07-2007 02:50 PM

If it's related to what I said go ahead.

Otherwise if you feel like discussing pancakes, for instance, go to the CT.

Surf 04-08-2007 06:06 AM

I think Mitch posted a song in several parts. A new one every few days after he'd gotten a few crits. Seemed to work well.

Disscussion-wise, why not? Its not as though we've got a mod to close it.

Speaking of which, could a mod close please? just stupid.

Dark_Link 04-25-2007 04:21 PM

Why can't I post a new thread?

Holy War 04-25-2007 04:25 PM

Dark_Link 04-26-2007 02:47 AM

-.- dude ur fag

it says:

You may not post new threads
You may post replies
You may post attachments
You may edit your posts

so I'm like, wtf?

TojesDolan 04-26-2007 06:25 AM

You have to wait a couple days before posting a thread.

Surf 04-28-2007 12:41 PM

Tojes! There is a crisis in the forum!

There's like ten threads by one guy, and it is getting in the way of my forum enjoyment!

Would you be a darling and close a few (or all of them I dunno)?

TojesDolan 04-28-2007 01:41 PM

Sure sorry hadn't seen them.

4_4

Jaxamillian 05-03-2007 11:13 AM

when can i make my own posts?

TojesDolan 05-03-2007 01:20 PM

Right there?

Maybe you mean threads. Youhaveto wait 24 hours from your join.

Remember to read the rules prior to posting.

Crowley5150 06-26-2007 07:21 AM

Hey guys - just want to ask a question on behalf of the user "Rocker13"

She joined up half way through the last Lyrical Challenge. She verified her account and was told she needed to wait before getting approval before posting.

She emailed me her challenge entry and I posted it for her until her account was activated, but even now (about 2 weeks at least after) its still not activated.

Could someone please have a look at it and let me know why her account is unable to post? She's wanting to have a go at the next lyrical challenge too but still can't post. (She'd post her problem here herself but cant :))

Surf 06-26-2007 07:32 AM

Are you sure she's activated the account?

When you register an email is sent with a link; click the link and the account should be acitvated. If she didn't get it, try checking her spam folder.
After its activated, she should be set to go.

Only other thing is that she wouldn't have been able to start new threads for the first 24hrs, but it shouldn't be that way for posting - Maybe she got confused between the two?

So not sure. Maybe log out, log in and try posting in here or something? If its verified, then I don't know what the problem could be.

Edit: there's a box in the bottom left or the screen that tells you what you can do: check that out and see what it says. should be something like

You may post new threads
You may post replies
You may post attachments
You may edit your posts

Crowley5150 06-26-2007 07:43 AM

She's given me her password to log in, which I have managed to log in with myself too just to make sure of what I was seeing.

And I can log in, but clicking on Post Reply brings up the message saying it cant post because of a couple of possible reasons - account not activated by admins yet, banned for abuse etc etc.

I'll get her to check her emails to see if she can click on the activation link again, but im pretty sure that I wouldn't be able to log in unless the account had its email verified.

Surf 06-26-2007 07:51 AM

I've never had any troubles with the accounts I've had here, but I've heard of other people having difficulty signing up and stuff.

If she can't find the email, wait for tojes to come around and he can get an admin to activate the account anyway (I think)

Or an admin might just read this...

TojesDolan 06-26-2007 05:13 PM

I can try.

BridgeToSolace 08-08-2007 05:04 PM

Hey, is this forum appropriate for songwriting from a musical standpoint? As in guitars, bass, etc.

The title implies that it is but whenever I've checked in on this forum (which admittedly isn't often), it's pretty much exclusively about lyric writing.

TojesDolan 08-08-2007 05:07 PM

I made an announcement allowing the discussion of songwriting from a musical standpoint, as you state.

Just don't expect much feedback since not many people who are into songwriting like in music come here often, but it's a good start. :)

BridgeToSolace 08-08-2007 05:54 PM

Man, way to go not reading the announcements >_<. Sorry for the gratuitous question and thanks for the speedy answer :)

MetalSpine 08-09-2007 03:02 PM

Ok, a similar problem to earlier in this thread. I can't post new threads. I've tried several times over several days and I have activated the account because when I click the link in the email it says ;This account has already been activated blah blah blah'. Any ideas what the problem is?

MetalSpine 08-09-2007 03:08 PM

Nevermind that, its probably my -401 rep :S which i got for backchatting to someone who insulted me...

TojesDolan 08-09-2007 03:11 PM

Maybe because you are a new user, wait 24 hours after you joined before you make a new thread about it.

Read the rules before posting a new thread!

Reputation has nothing to do with neg rep, anyway. I'll compensate for that.

MetalSpine 08-09-2007 03:16 PM

Does negative rep stop me making threads?

Surf 08-09-2007 03:19 PM

no.

rep does nothing aside from putting the little green boxes under your name.

looks nice though.

edit: and tojes must have loads if you had -401 =/

MetalSpine 08-09-2007 03:36 PM

What could be stopping me from making threads? I've activated the account, waited over 24 hours and looked through eeeeverything regarding thread rules etc.

Apologies if I seem like a whiney asshat

Another Emo Kid 08-09-2007 03:37 PM

In the bottom left corner of the page what do the posting rules say for you?

MetalSpine 08-09-2007 03:38 PM

'You may not post new threads'

Another Emo Kid 08-09-2007 03:40 PM

I brought it to the attention of an admin hopefully he'll resolve it =)

MetalSpine 08-09-2007 03:46 PM

Thanks very much

Edit: It sorted nowq. Says I can post. :)
