What makes metal heavy?

Speed? Atmosphere? Groove?

I find bands like Nile, Brain Drill, Incantation, Suffocation...etc... almost comical. They make me laugh, yeah they're fast but there is just no impact in any of the music.

What metal bands will make me want to go and kill loads of people?

Det_Nosnip 06-29-2012 06:41 PM

Dissonance, chromaticism, heavy staccatto accents, low register.

The gods of metal infuse it with their Satanic semen ov hate.

Silenius 06-30-2012 06:06 AM

Truly heavy means a slow to mod-paced tempo and deliberate, powerful riffing to me.

High atomic mass combined with closely packed metallic bonds?

I agree. The faster stuff is more "intense," "brutal," etc, but for "heavy" I think more doomy, crushing stuff.

I don't think metal music has any kind of monopoly on heaviness, i think the term can apply to a lot of genres

Det_Nosnip 07-04-2012 07:28 AM
