people seem to think they're one of the most important ones |
i have really enjoyed gettin into krautrock in the past couple months
Neu! are a tad overrated imo

krautrock is great because you never have those moments where you think "hey this might have been written by a sober person" |

Yep. Does anyone here like Agitation Free? An underrated Krautrock glory.
|
I've had their debut for a very long time, I need to give it a listen.
|
can are not underrated at all haha every hipster in the world likes to namedrop them to make it sound like they know what krautrock is
|
you guys didnt get the joke
:upset: |
popol vuh - aguirre
|
um yeah say something dont just name an album ****in retard
|
they're still under rated, indie kids like to name drop tago mago or future days here and there but they're still overlooked
|
Tangerine Dream are awesome, need to get some Can soon as I like what I've heard by them.
|
Their first four albums (Monster Movie, Soundtracks, Tago Mago, Ege Bamyasi) are classics, any one is a good place to start.
|
um yeah say something dont just name an album ****in retard
huh why not name an album? |
I'm listening to Popol Vuh's Nosferatu right now
<3 this is so good, one of the few Popol Vuh albums I was missing. |
my fav popol vuh is aguirre that epic record synergized with the movie aguirre wrath of god so well.
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=3oh8yDDCrWQ oh kool psychedelic visuals |
Yeah, everything they made for Herzog was ****ing magnificent. Just like the movies.
|
i need more popul vuh, only have Hosianna Mantra and Aguirre
|
Yeah I could use some more Popol Vuh. All I have is Affenstunde. Although I have Herzog's Nosferatu so I've heard the soundtrack to it.
Any one listened to Walter Wegmuller's Tarot? I'm giving it a listen for the first time in a while right now, it's spoken word backed by a whole supergroup of kraut guys. Klaus Schulze, Manual Gottsching, Winnthuser, Westrupp, etc. And I think all of the guys from Cosmic Jokers have a spot. |
Can are amazing, but Faust are a tad better imo.
And I guess the most "underrated" Krautrock band nowadays is Ash Ra Tempel, I mean holy **** they had both Manuel Götsching and Klaus Schulze. |
I still have only listened to Ash Ra Tempel's debut, it's one of my favorite records tho.
I'm not sure if I could really pick between Can or Faust. both are brilliant, but i might lean towards Can strictly for my love of Tago Mago and Soundtracks. |
I was surprised to read Popol Vuh composed music for so many Herzog films I have seen
|
better start working through the discography then i guess
|

This is pretty good. Heavy Tangerine Dream influence. Spaced-out, jazzy Berlin School. |
Jaundice. Recommend me entry level Krautrock.
Can are amazing, but Faust are a tad better imo. And I guess the most "underrated" Krautrock band nowadays is Ash Ra Tempel, I mean holy **** they had both Manuel Götsching and Klaus Schulze.
You're the most cohesive Austrian poster we have, please stay; and that's coming from a St. Pölten native. |
It's kind of hard to use the term entry-level for krautrock, because all of the most well-known records are the ones that are the most challenging and experimental, and you don't start getting more straight forward sounding stuff until you look through the obscurities. I guess I'll start with the five essentials:
Can - Tago Mago Faust - Faust Kraftwerk - Trans-Europe Express Cluster - Zuckerzeit Ash Ra Tempel - Ash Ra Tempel You'll really like that Faust album, lots of strong musique concrete influence. The Kraftwerk and Cluster albums are pretty much exclusively electronic instruments, but check out Can and Ash Ra Tempel for some insane guitar and percussion work that leans toward prog/psychedelia. |
Faust is great.
|
When I hear that part in Why Don't You Eat Carrots? that's just a woman speaking in French with little short bursts of noise panning between the speakers in the back ground
it's like **** some one finally understands me |
They actually have a tremendous influence on the music I'd like to make. I mean , you can't even put a genre name on what they're doing. They're just as likely to do a fifteen minute drone track as they are to do a little two minute pop song or even an ironic reggae piece.
Plus I think Throbbing Gristle has already gone on record thanking them for their influence on the Industrial sound. |
yeah faust is great
|
Just bought a Silvester Anfang album
band is so ****ing great |
