The BoySetsFire Appreciation Thread

In light of the fact that BSF is no more (:() I have decided to make a thread honoring the amazing post-hardcore band.

Discuss.

FlawedPerfection 08-01-2006 03:14 PM

BoySetsFire are my favorite post-hardcore band. Period.

BuddyBigsby 08-01-2006 03:18 PM

I love this band like no other but come on, are you really that bummed about it? Their last album wasn't that great and they've been around 3x longer than most hardcore bands.

I think "The Misery Index: notes from the plague years" is some of their best stuff actually.

Then you were not the person to make this thread. Old stuff is far better than any of there new releases.

cbmartinez 08-01-2006 04:11 PM

Look at his usertitle, come on.

After The Eulogy is awesome. "Last Year's Nest" got me into them and is still one of my favorite songs.

KASEYKASEYKASEYKASEY 08-01-2006 04:14 PM

is this a hardcore band?

my friend talks about how they are the first melodic hardcore band, but he also thinks gb doesn't sound like hardcore. I don't tlak to him much about music

Converge#12 08-01-2006 04:34 PM

Post-Hardcore so yes they are.

You also not only like Bullet for My Valentine, but are actually stoking on seeing them like its some sort of religious experience. 100 bucks says you'd ask for those hacks autographs as well.

If you think Misery Index is some of their best stuff, chances are you haven't heard anything pre-After the Eulogy.

After The Eulogy is the shit

Der, so what? I'm not that excited about seeing them and they have nothing to do with me liking BoySetsFire. The only time I've mentioned I'm going to see them on the forum is on the usertitle and one post in the sputnik community thread.
If you think Misery Index is some of their best stuff, chances are you haven't heard anything pre-After the Eulogy.
I have The Day The Sun Went Out, Suckerpunch Training EP, and Before The Eulogy and still think Misery Index is their best of what I've heard.

masada 08-02-2006 03:39 PM

omg bullet for my valentine sucks listen to real music

Oh ok, then you're just deaf and you still like nu-metalcore.

cuts_like_drugs 08-02-2006 04:14 PM

Good band. Can't say I'm gutted or anything but it sucks whenever band I appreciate calls it a day. Get to see them at Leeds Fest at least.

bottlerocket 08-02-2006 04:19 PM

Holy crap, Scott. You're brutal.

If that's how you want to put it, yes.

stinger 08-04-2006 12:38 PM

loved boy sets fire since i pretty much heard them, i *think* i have pretty much all their released records in one form or another, and i think that notes from the plague years is some of their strongest stuff aswell, all those old songs are amazing and whatnot, but iv heard them like 7000 times,

you know hardcore isnt the only genre of music in the world right?
their new record really pushed the band forward if you ask me, im slightly dissapointed about the split, but i kinda saw it coming, and im glad ill see them one more time before the split (leeds festival aswell actually) lets make it one to remember

BuddyBigsby 08-04-2006 12:41 PM

After the Eulogy pushed them forward. BSF are hardly a by-the-books hardcore band. Shut up.

stinger 08-04-2006 12:48 PM

woah hostilities, nice avatar by the way ;)

im not gonna get into an argument with you about genres, because franky i couldnt give a ****

the locust are the best grind band EVAAAHHH!! e.c.t, arguiing about genres is ****ing pointless, im sure MANY people in the world have called the locust grind, as have they called BSF hardcore, blame the media, blame ignorance, at the end of the day, who gives a ****, its music

BuddyBigsby 08-04-2006 01:02 PM

Alright then just shut up.

Sleeper 08-04-2006 02:49 PM

Can anyone recommend me some songs by this group, I've liked what i heard so far.

BuddyBigsby 08-04-2006 03:04 PM

Get the whole After the Eulogy album, that's pretty much their greatest hits.

Then I'd go for the Snapcase and Coalesce splits, and then The Day the Sun Went Out, and then the two new albums.

stinger 08-05-2006 09:37 AM

suckerpunch training was always a favourite of mine, vehicle from TCTSMVIBB is really good, and cavity from in crysalis for some of the songs that are normally ignored, pure has always been a favourite of mine aswell

RetiredAt21 08-05-2006 08:55 PM

I like After The Eulogy alot, I haven't heard much else though.

IgniteYourAvail 08-06-2006 10:58 AM

I used to listen to After The Eulogy a lot. I don't really listen to BSF anymore, though.

santi3hg 08-16-2006 09:02 PM

So I guess here is where I should post this.

I won a contest from Equal Visions, which the prize is a autographed cd. And this is what it is.

Pretty cool prize.

RetiredAt21 08-17-2006 10:31 AM

Sweet.

skatastic33 08-18-2006 06:14 PM

When i saw these guys in San Antonio they played a great show. It was ground level and it was pretty intense. It would definatley have to be one of the best shows ive been to.

Storm In A Teacup 08-23-2006 07:39 PM

Their final shows are delayed because guitarist Josh suffered extreme injuries at his work, including a broken neck among other severe injuries. :(

I've decided that my top 5 BSF songs (of what I've heard) are:

"Holiday In Cambodia"
"Suckerpunch Training"
"Turn The Key"
"In Hope"
"Walk Astray"

I'll probably make a list with what I think are their top 10, or 15 songs.

skatastic33 08-23-2006 09:40 PM

how'd that happen? is he gonna be ok?
