Pink Floyd

I'm giving this a try, just to see if it will work. I'm simply taking advice on board from Jake's thread. So yeah, enjoy.

---------------------------------------------------------------------------

Pink Floyd were arguably one of the more infuential bands of the '60s, '70s and even today. This thread is for discussion of all things Floyd, and also the solo projects of the members. A great site for learning about Floyd is here.

For a great article, written by the forum's own Med57, read this.

--------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Many of the regulars of this thread often write interpretations of the albums Pink Floyd have released. These collaborations will be listed below, so that even the most casual Floyd fan can get an idea of the stories and concepts behind the albums. New users are welcome to join in, just wait until either Lunch998, MalcolmYoungRock or myself call for nominations for the album. Once the album is decided, each person can dibs a song. Then, you have around two weeks to write the analysis of the lyrics of the song. We are still debating whether the instrumental side should also be considered... :)

I think we need to restart the song meanings. I've still got Pigs On The Wing to finish, so someone nab sheep. I also think the next album should be More.

MBS 11-10-2005 07:10 PM

First post! I'm on the biggest WYWH fix. I love that album so much. Has anyone seen David Gilmour in Concert?

NP: SOYCD - Pink Floyd

King_Of_Terrors 11-10-2005 08:25 PM

Cool, I like the thread title.

Nostalgia 11-10-2005 08:31 PM

Great Idea, I was thinking about this a while ago but didn't think it would fly.

Bazarov 11-10-2005 08:36 PM

After I finish listening to the current song I'm playing. I'm going to listen to Pigs (3 Different Ones). It is my favorite Pink Floyd song. Animals is my favorite album by Pink Floyd as well.

I really dug Moaner's write up on this song. I had a vague idea what it was about. But I never understood the "HAHA Charade you are" part. I've never really heard the phraise "Charade you are". So I wasn't sure.

Kingofdudes 11-10-2005 08:39 PM

Starting fresh? Cya later old fred.

I havent been listening to much Pink Floyd lately, due to my recent huge ass CD order.

But I did listen to my Montreal Bootleg today

Killtacular 11-10-2005 09:16 PM

So.. the old Floyd thread is gone?

Bazarov 11-10-2005 09:17 PM
So.. the old Floyd thread is gone?
Nah, Riva said he might bring back the old one, depending on how this thread goes.

robo2448 11-10-2005 09:19 PM

New thread I guess. I think I like this name better. I haven't listened to enough Floyd today.

/puts on WYWH

DeusExMachina 11-10-2005 09:59 PM

Ohhh... crazy talk. So here's why the old thread was closed! Down with the old, move on, all that jazz. I'll miss the old one though. I have lots of posts in there.

I've been listening to The Division Bell a ton lately. I love that album. It feels that so many of the tracks were references to Syd and Roger though.

BludgeonySteve 11-10-2005 10:18 PM

Yeah, that's a good number of their songs. Almost everything they do has some sort of refference to Syd
.
I've really been enjoying Atom Heart Mother. One of my favorite extremely long songs that seems to go forever (and the rest of the album is good too).

magicbus 11-10-2005 10:18 PM

I'm sad for the old thread :(

I like the Division Bell a lot. I think I'm going to get it for christmas. I'll probably also get the Pulse DVD, if it does, in fact, come out in time.

Heh, from reading a lot of interviews/books, I can tell the band wishes they never wrote that song.

Broken Arrow 11-10-2005 10:27 PM

I think More would be be a hard/cool one to do.

True. But I do love it so.

I like your user title. :p

Glitterati 11-10-2005 10:31 PM

So this is the new Floyd thread? Wicked, I'd been meaning to join the old thread sometime soon.

Piper At The Gates Of Dawn is awesome! I just got it a few weeks ago. I love how rawly psychedelic it is, especially "Lucifer Sam."

niobium 11-10-2005 10:32 PM

I'm not a Pink Floyd fan, but one song I have heard of theirs that I love. "Goodbye Blue Sky", off the Wall. "Bike" on Relics isn't bad either. Besides "Goodbye Blue Sky" I found the Wall to be too epic for my likings. I'm a big Sunn 0))) fan, but still, I also thought they were pretty boring. Just give me my King Crimson.

DeusExMachina 11-10-2005 10:33 PM

I used to not like PATGOD, but I really got into it recently. I've been listening to a lot more psychadelic stuff lately.

Barrett's solo stuff is really cool. It's very bare, just him and an acoustic guitar, but I think it has a real pyschadelic vibe.

Bazarov 11-10-2005 11:03 PM

Glad I'm not alone. I didn't really care for The Wall very much. I like a few tracks. But I think I don't think it's that great.

BludgeonySteve 11-10-2005 11:07 PM
Heh, from reading a lot of interviews/books, I can tell the band wishes they never wrote that song.
From the general impression that David Gilmour gives off, I can tell that he wishes he haden't participated in Pink Floyd up until Dark Side :p

BlackDeathMetalJazz or really ANYTHING else please- 11-10-2005 11:09 PM

It's his lyrics and his voice that makes it Psychedelic. Madcap Laughs keeps growing on me. I just can't get enough of "Octopus". I wish he could've made just one solo album when he was at least somewhat stable psychologically. It's a true shame......

pizzapie88 11-11-2005 02:15 AM

I brought Wish You Were Here a few day ago. A very good album, not a bad song on it. My favourite track at the moment has to be Have a Cigar :smoke:

unComfortablyNumb 11-11-2005 03:15 AM

Wish You Were Here is my favorite album as well. I think every track on that album is amazing.

I've been meaning to get The Division Bell and A Momentary Lapse of Reason for quite some time now. Sadly, I've only heard a few selected tracks on each of these albums. What are some of your opinions on these albums?

np: Pink Floyd - Childhood's End

Huber 11-11-2005 03:19 AM

Good work. I tried pitchin' in a little bio to help this place out myself...

I really like the idea of making little biographies or write-ups for bands that have official threads and maybe editting it into the first post of there "official threads". Write-ups will probably put an end to most questions that new-comers have that have been discussed to death, and may even raise new conversation.

Definitely. Especially if we all watch the movie which apparently doesn't exist. At least, I can't find it. :(

Of course PULSE won't be out yet. :p

However, I enjoy DB quite a bit, especially for falling asleep to.

Somebody in the other thread mentioned that it was scheduled to come out in December. Maybe we're just being tricked again

Is it worth picking up a Barret solo album? I've been thinking about it. I didn't know it was acoustic.

The Fonz 11-11-2005 09:15 AM

I thought we had a Floyd Thread.. but then again ive been in the Pit for the past 6 months or so.

I"m obsessed with the wall. IF it were a woman, i would make passionate love to it everynight. (album/movie)
