Droooool

ps: the last pic is the kids kit - daddy doesn't just spoil himself.

Gretsch has always made sexy drums. Always some of my favorites!

fishbulb 03-29-2012 11:57 AM

Looks awesome! I'm digging the 2002's.

NUTHA JASON 03-31-2012 05:35 AM

played her for the first time last night. er...is it wrong to fall in love with an inanimate object?
The toms are so clean and warm but not lacking in projection. i used no mufling on them at all. unmiced they filled the club with punch.

but the bass drum ...hmmmmmm mmm. with such a large vellum i was able to tune quite high without losing bottom end. no hole in the front and just some felt strips and one small pillow to stop feedback from close micing. she has incredible volume - even when the mic fader was bumped down accidentaly in the second set - she still cut through. phat and wet but with a little hum of warmth after the initial attack. the perfect all round rock bass drum sound.

24x16 bass will do that. My drum teacher's set that I play on has one of those, its so beefy.

I really dig that, did you do it yourself? I've been thinking of doing something on my front head too. What did you use for paint?

NUTHA JASON 04-01-2012 01:33 PM

Nice set up man

High class, love the 2002's

Drum Phil 04-03-2012 04:57 AM

I always loved Gretsch kits. So much class

Not really a huge fan of black finishes, but that's just taste

Totally loving the kids kit though :D

Vinnie's Ice Cream 04-08-2012 10:52 PM

Gretsch makes the best Keller shelled kits out there. Matte black was a nice choice. The '02's are an excellent compliment as well!

What is that huge black thing on your kick drum batter head?

keaton_86 04-08-2012 11:39 PM

Nice man.

NUTHA JASON 04-10-2012 03:50 AM

its my own home made patch- i've been doing this for years. its a recangle of old front bass head secured in place with duct tape.

i've never broken of even dented a batter bass head and i kick hard and use wooden or plastic beaters.

Vinnie's Ice Cream 04-11-2012 11:17 AM

Seems like that would dampen the head a lot more then a kick patch. Particularly considering most batter heads come with the patches now...

Vinnie's Ice Cream 04-11-2012 11:22 AM

Seems like that would kill the tone of the head, particularly being so huge. Kick patches are cheap, small and come with most batter heads now a days as is.

NUTHA JASON 04-11-2012 04:44 PM

it doesn't do much to the sustain - besides i have a felt strip and a small pillow in there. if anything it adds a bit of needed attack to what is already a very resonant drum

NUTHA JASON 04-26-2012 01:47 PM

i had to interview a new engineer for my studio today so i took the opportunity to have him record my kit. we only had an hour window (between clients) to set up tune up mic up and go. but here is what she sounds like.
ps: we used a simple glyn john mic set up. i think he did a good job under pressure so i will hire him.
