I can get all your choices, except OC & Apollo Brown, which was an average album imo. Not that much of a fan of JJ DOOM either, but I can understand the love it gets. The other albums on your list are awesome so it just comes down to personal taste. To me none of them is on the level of GKMC, the only one I could consider to be just as good is RAP Music. |
for GKMC, it comes down to the production for me. in combination with the hooks. too many missteps and stumbles throughout the album. the content, story, lyrics, what have you, are on point. but aurally, there's some sore spots.
shoulda let Pharrell produce the whole thing. :D |
I do agree that the production on section80 was better overall. He didn't take many risks here when it comes to beats. But the lyrical content and storytelling and overall structure of the album is too good for it to be that much of a problem (in my eyes at least). If he had been a bit more ambitious with the beats, got rid of the Drake and Mary J Blige song, and put Cartoon & Cereals in the album, this would be a 5 without a single doubt. I think it'll stay as a 4.5 for me though because of that.
Big Boi might have a chance at AOTY though so the race is not over. |
the drake song was fine tbh
i liked the beats on this more than section 80 in general. they were more atmospheric and a little more electronic influenced where section 80 had a lot of more natural drum driven beats also there were less hooks, and the only one i really didn't like is the one on bitch dont kill my vibe. really just because the way its mixed his voice sounds incredible nasal. section 80 was full of hooks that i almost couldn't stand |
both albums are very hook driven, i find the ones on this album to be just as annoying
the hook on Real is literally the worst thing ive heard on a kendrick song |
heard other people complain about it too but i didnt mind it at all
|
he really doesnt need hooks im not sure why he puts em in
|
