Wat guitar did clapton use when he played crossroads?

I no its either a les paul or a strat, someone help me out.

Random Username 07-16-2005 08:23 PM

I always thought it was a Firebird.

Chipwich88 07-16-2005 08:23 PM

to put it ignorantly:

cream = les paul
clapton (solo) = strat

i know, i know, he played other gibsons too, but this is putting it blandly

longvonsilver 07-16-2005 08:26 PM

Yeah i no, he betrayed lps when he wetn solo the c unt, wat an idiot, so im thinkin it was a les paul then aye?

MegaMustaine 07-16-2005 08:26 PM

Yeah, pretty sure it was a strat.

Random Username 07-16-2005 08:27 PM

It was a Firebird.

BleachWars125 07-16-2005 08:29 PM

for the record, he basically stopped using les pauls once his '59 was stolen, then he went to gibson explorers, then fender strats. (and he likes the strats much more than the previous two).

longvonsilver 07-16-2005 08:32 PM

So one guys sayin firebird, anothers sayin strat, nobody sayin les paul, which is it to be then.

superjoe 07-16-2005 09:19 PM

Ok ok, for the version of crossroads recorded live at the fillmore on the wheels of fire disc, he used a cherry gibson es335...he also used gibson sg's around this time. In '66 he used various '58-'60 les pauls, and he didnt use firebirds untill the late 60's.

wrong

Punk15480 07-16-2005 09:31 PM

he used an ES-335 on all the live performances I've seen of crossroads when he was still with cream.

Nic__ 07-16-2005 09:35 PM

It sounds like a LP to me...Man ECs guitars were so cool.

masterofdisaster 07-16-2005 09:47 PM

i forgot, he also played a red es 335 live. i would show you, but i havent figured out how to put pictures in yet

Im sorry to all you people out there who thought Clapton used a LP in Cream. Just after cream was founded and the debtut of "Fresh Cream" Claptons LP was stolen. So he bought the custom SG "the fool". He later used a ES-335 on the "wheels of Fire" album so to put it bluntly and for all final reference ERIC CLAPTON USED A ES-335 ON "CROSSROADS", HE ALSO USED A SG FOR THE MAJORITY OF CREAM, HE ONLY BRIEFLY USED A FIREBIRD ON HIS "ERIC CLAPTON" ALBUM AND BLIND FAITH, AND LATER USED A CUSTOM STRAT FOR THE BETTER PART OF HIS CAREER. These facts are totally true and solve all debate.

brokenwingsarefalling 07-16-2005 11:28 PM

he played a gibson 335 it was cherry red i got a poster out of guitar world a while back (on my wall now) it tells the whole story behind it thats what he used when he played "crossroads" but that guitar is in a case now he sold it for like $800,000 a while back to guitar center and gave the money to charity

clown_phobia 07-16-2005 11:40 PM

I think it was a strat, thats the guitar he's famous for

pfc_mike 07-17-2005 12:06 AM

i guess as everyone else has said it was a 335, i thought it was most likely his SG (which he got painted by a couple of friends of the Beatles)...but even though he has switched from LPs to SGs to Strats, his tone is pretty much the same...i find that quite interesting...

The DVD Cream of Clapton has 1968 footage of Clapton playing Crossroads, it seems a little different than the album however he is playing his ES335 for crossroads.

He also used les pauls while recording gears and wheels, not jsut durring fresh cream. ex: he used a lp custom black beauty on the direali gears sessions...

Clapton used LPs all the way up past Derek and the Dominoes...he didn't just spotaneously give them up...
