Official Powerviolence Thread

We seriously need one of these. It seems lately that everyone has been talking alot about PV, so we should have an official thread. My favorite PV bands are:

ACxDC
$ylvester $taline
Lack Of Interest
Charles Bronson
Magrudergrind
Mobile Terror Unit
Eaten Alive
NxBxC
Straight Edge Kegger (close enough to PV)

I know there are a tone more that I've forgotten, but anyways, let's discuss PV.

DaveToopes 02-02-2007 07:47 PM

I need to get into more PV. Love ACxDC. I think Bronson is pretty overrated though.

RetiredAt21 02-02-2007 07:52 PM

ACxDC is seriously my favorite PV band at the moment, those guys are fucking great. And yeah, Charles Bronson is a smidge overrated, but I still love them.

Special Brew 02-02-2007 08:12 PM

I didn't know Eaten Alive was powerviolence, but they're good. I like a few bands I've heard from this genre, but alot of the bands just don't do anything for me. I had a huge Magrudergrind kick all last summer though.

RetiredAt21 02-02-2007 08:15 PM

I don't know what is with all the hating on Eaten Alive in the hardcore forum, I think they rule. Magrudergrind is f'ucking sick, too. I love their split with Shitstorm

username77 02-02-2007 08:49 PM

ACxDC rule so hard.
So does Charles Bronson.
XfilesX isn't really PV, but they're worth a listen to fans of the genre.

RetiredAt21 02-02-2007 08:56 PM

XfilesX definitely have some PV influences, though.

Excursions 02-02-2007 09:45 PM

Honestly, I don't find fast hardcore that great.

heyimsheep1 02-03-2007 03:12 AM

I don't listen to much of it though.

Iron Lung!
Reagan SS
Capitalist Casualties
Crucial Unit
Ceremony? They're between straight HC and PV.

I'm going to UGZ Speed Trialz in March.

It is that great, though.

Crucial Unit isn't PV are they? I thought they were thrash. Either way, they definitely are awesome.

AIRIC 02-03-2007 09:32 AM

Crucial Unit are thrash but.

My favorite power violence is probably Infest. Charles Bronson are overrated.

ACxDC have an awesome reunion set on their myspace that really turned them onto me.

RetiredAt21 02-03-2007 10:34 AM

My favorite PV band is a tie between ACxDC and Magrudergrind. I love Infest alot, too.

Times Ten 02-03-2007 11:20 AM

I don't really use the term powerviolence that much because it is so ambiguous, but I can say that I thoroughly enjoy most bands mentioned in this thread. Except Charles Bronson. They are lame and overrated!

Feel The Darkness 02-03-2007 12:12 PM

This belongs in Hardcore. just saying.

I rarely use the term PV unless I'm talking about No Comment, Lack of Interest, Man is the Bastard, Neanderthal, etc. Anything else is just hardcore. I used to use the term quite loosely, but yeah...no. Even Infest is just hardcore. Most bands that are considered PV are actually just fast hardcore bands.

raus 02-03-2007 12:21 PM

Most of you don't seem to understand what power violence is. Super fast hardcore is not power violence. It has an equally stupid name.

J's got it right. No Comments, LOI, MITB, Neanderthal, Margrudergrind, shit like that is PV.

Eaten Alive are definitely not power violence.

AIRIC 02-03-2007 02:54 PM

Okay awesome so J and Niko can just not post in the Official Power Violence Thread and we can continue to loosely use the term.

Excursions 02-03-2007 03:00 PM

PV as a style was pretty much about 5-10 bands. I would hardly call it a genre.

Times Ten 02-03-2007 04:15 PM

Every band mentioned in H.S.M.P. by Man is The Bastard were pretty much the only powerviolence bands, with a handful of exceptions.

Excursions 02-03-2007 04:33 PM

We have a winner.

Then you don't know what it is. Stay the fuck outta this thread if you don't like the way we talk about PV.

raus 02-04-2007 09:24 AM

No retard, the whole point is that you don't know what it is.

If the three other knowledgable people telling you that you're wrong as well isn't enough, then I guess you're still Justin.

RetiredAt21 02-04-2007 04:17 PM

Nah, I know what I'm talking about.

raus 02-04-2007 04:31 PM

Gee whiz, you sure do make a good point.

heyimsheep1 02-04-2007 09:23 PM

Spazz
Gee whiz, you sure do make a good point.
How is your "point" any better than mine? If you don't like how we talk about PV, then it's simple, don't post here.
How is your "point" any better than mine? If you don't like how we talk about PV, then it's simple, don't post here.
It's not how you talk about power violence, it's that you think every band that's fast and sorta thrashy is power violence. Bands that don't even sound like real power violence are power violence to you.

Plus you're really stupid in everything else you do.

Aus Rotten 02-04-2007 09:44 PM

Charles Bronson are definately not overrated. Been my favorite band, next to Aus Rotten for years now. But, among some of my favorites are: Charles Bronson, Spazz, Stapled Shut, Despise You, $ylvester $taline, Yacopsae, Infest, etc. Personally speaking, I this the ACxDC demo is very overrated -- Death Spares Not The Tiger/Turtle Power are easily the highlights, but, some of the songs are REAL downers. :thumb: Oh, and since we're on powerviolence/thrash, my powerviolence band just played with Rat Byte (Skate Thrash) last night. :thumb:

I don't think every band that is fast and thrash is power violence, you fucking moron. I listen to thrash as well as power violence. I know the difference. Shut the fuck up.

You don't know the difference, because you called Eaten Alive power violence. That's fucking ridiculous.
