Daniel Johnston - Tell Me Now

McP3000 08-31-2008 09:40 PM

Summoning-Minas Morgul

favorite summoning thus far, yet i have yet to hear lugburz, stronghold, or dol guldur

ill probably spin dol guldur in the next day

Angmar 08-31-2008 09:41 PM

Dol Guldur in my eyes is like a better Minas Morgul, and Stronghold has some really ace songs on it.

McP3000 08-31-2008 09:42 PM

Cool to hear.

And isnt Oath Bound your favorite summoning album?

Used to be, although Land of the Dead is probably my favorite song ever. These days I prefer Let Mortal Heroes Sing Your Fame.

Let Mortal Heroes Sing Your Fame is definitely better than Oath Bound. I found Oath Bound to be good, but way over the top in terms of the Tolkien-esque musical structures. Almost to the point of exhausting. LMHSYF has much more balance.

Angmar 08-31-2008 09:54 PM

Some people think that yeah, I never really understood but I don't ever think Summoning go too far over the top no matter how much they might love to indulge in Tolkien, the music always was so good for me it didn't matter.

I dont mind the lyrical or musical themes, but the black metal was too overshadowed by the over the top drumming and wind instruments.
Dont get me wrong, it was still a really good album, but it was just over done.

Angmar 08-31-2008 09:57 PM

Ahh yeah I can see why you'd think that, tbh I don't really think of Summoning as black metal so the whole guitars not being prominent and such never bothered me.

hmm, what would you consider them? Folk Metal?

Angmar 08-31-2008 10:05 PM

Meh more just epic/folk metal kind of thing, only real element to their later stuff that makes them black metal is their vocals, and that's not really enough to decide their whole genre.

Tyler 08-31-2008 10:05 PM

dork metal

Angmar 08-31-2008 10:06 PM

gtfo

Tyler 08-31-2008 10:07 PM

You can't tell me, with a straightface, that Summoning aren't dorky in every way imaginable.

OhBoyIt'sRoy 08-31-2008 10:07 PM

dork metal is a good set of words

I'm not necessarily saying that in a bad way. Nerds and Dorks get love too, I guess.

OhBoyIt'sRoy 08-31-2008 10:10 PM

What about dweebs?

Haha yeah I know :p I just learn not to really take the whole dorky side of Summoning into account.

eh, i think the only album that would fit that is Oath Bound. Even LMHSYF had enough distortion to be "black"

hahaha

basically, still really like them
