Isn't there a two-week expiration date on dibs? Or is that gone with the new "Request A Review" thread?
Yeah, wasn't it like 10 days or something?

*wants dibs to expire so he can do the QOTSA review instead of valley2004*
Yeah, wasn't it like 10 days or something?

Well, cause it's like this: JoZ dibbed his review for Trans-Siberian Orchestra on December 4th, and that's considerably more than two weeks ago. So wasn't I entitled to review it myself anyway?

Iai 12-22-2004 06:18 PM

Trying to blag it, eh, YD?

The JoZ 12-22-2004 08:46 PM

...Well, honestly, I think that's a load of crap either way.

Some of us had exams last week, and didn't have the time to write the review.

I mean, why should I have bothered to dibs it if in 10 days it wasn't going to matter? To me, the point of dibs is to say "Hey, I really want to review this album, but I can't do it at this time..."

If I had dibsed it, say a month ago, I don't think I'd have much of an argument, but 10 days is just atrocious.

YDload 12-22-2004 08:47 PM

All right then, just start a new thread. Bartender can probably merge my review under yours.

The JoZ 12-22-2004 08:48 PM

Yeah he said he would.

I'll have it up later tonight sometime.

YDload 12-22-2004 08:53 PM

Well actually, it would probably be kind of anachronistic to have my thread in with yours. I could probably just re-post my review in your thread. Would that be a better idea?

Can I get a review of All Things Must Pass - George Harrison

Robert Crumb 12-23-2004 02:31 AM

Dr. Octagon all done. I don't think I'm going to do the Small Faces review right now, as I can't seem to find what I did the the CD. I'd like to dib Harry Nilsson's Nilsson Schmilsson instead. Coconuts!

Bartender 12-23-2004 03:07 AM
Well actually, it would probably be kind of anachronistic to have my thread in with yours. I could probably just re-post my review in your thread. Would that be a better idea?
Yeah, it would. Posts end up in a thread chronologically when they're merged, so (I think) it would end up as if The Joz had posted his review in your thread anyway.

As for dibs having a life span, well yeah, they do. They'd have to, or people could hold up reviewing for ages. I've always said "two weeks" (or a couple of weeks), but it wasn't meant as a solid thing, just a vague guideline, because it's just never actually come into play before.

Dancin' Man 12-23-2004 12:08 PM

But the time period is different for different people. A new person who comes in and makes a dibs is not going to be honored for very long because we have nothing to base it on. If a veteran who's written many reviews makes a dibs, waiting a month doesn't seem that out of the question because it will probably be a god reviews and they will do it. I would reccomend asking a veteran if you can steal their review when it's been 1 week to a month because thats a hazy period.

Bartender 12-23-2004 12:37 PM

All hail Fast Fingers, for having a decent solution.

I could do it but but I've done 2 in the last 2 days.

Shadows 12-23-2004 02:55 PM

Alright, 1349 seems to be getting pretty popular around here, is anyone going to review something by them?

guitarguy564 12-23-2004 06:01 PM

can someone review thunder lightning strike by the go! team???

Bartender 12-23-2004 06:24 PM

Don't quote the entire first post, please.

HOLY FUCKING HELL, I just deleted X, Y and Z from the List.

I cut them, with the intention of putting them in their own post, and somewhere along the way it all got lost from the clipboard.

:(:(:(

Could anyone help me try and remember what was in X, Y and Z, so I can search for them all and rediscover them? So far I have;

X
X-Ray Spex - something

Y

Yes
Fragile
Closer to the Edge

Young, Neil
After the Goldrush
Everyone Knows..something something
Harvest
On the Beach
Rust Never Sleeps
Zuma

Z

Zappa
Freak Out
Hot Rats (was this one done?)
Weasels Ripped My Flesh

ZZ Top
Tres Hombres
Rio Grande Mud

I know there are more. Help, please?

Bartender 12-24-2004 06:34 AM

Oh no, you don't have to actually search for them. It's my mistake, I'll fix it. I'm just wondering if anyone can remember what was there, to make the search easier.

I'm going through my list of Hall reviews at the moment, finding what's there.

Bartender 12-24-2004 06:54 AM

Revised list of what I think is missing.

I'm more or less positive that X-Ray Spex are the only X band we have a review on, so that's okay. The rest I'm not so sure on. Can anyone think of any that were there, and aren't now?

Iai 12-24-2004 07:05 AM

Yngwie Malmsteem should be in M. :)

/not helping

It looks right to me, anyway. Besides, it'll fix itself after a while. If someone posts a new review with those letters, or requests one, someone can search to see if it's already been done before. And I'm sure the people who wrote the reviews will complain about their reviews going missing.

Bartender 12-24-2004 07:07 AM

Yeah, I thought that too, but I think we're including him in Y because Yngwie Malmsteen isn't his real name.

Yeah. Some of them are difficult to search for, though. Yes and ZZ Top in particular.

Iai 12-24-2004 07:08 AM

So is Bob Dylan in B?

See, this is why I complained when you re-ordered it.

Iai 12-24-2004 07:13 AM

Would've figured the last three would be under the Mothers Of Invention (like Freak Out!), but those were among those deleted.

Bartender 12-24-2004 07:13 AM

Thanks, Medopalis.

Freak Out (and others) were kept with Zappa because the artist is given on the album as Frank Zappa and the Mothers of Invention. Which I would have under F, but if Zappa himself is going to end up under Z, it's easier to keep all Zappa related albums with him.
So is Bob Dylan in B?

See, this is why I complained when you re-ordered it.
I re-ordered it because more people were complaining the other way around

:)

For whatever reason, general consensus was that Dylan be in D, yet Yngwie be in Y. I'd have kept it all dont by first name, but I suppose this is what a little democracy brings.

Iai 12-24-2004 07:14 AM

Oh yeah....!!! - Louden Up Now would have deleted.

Iai 12-24-2004 07:15 AM

And there it is.

Bartender 12-24-2004 07:16 AM

Thanks.
