this is the first sun city girls i've heard, it's interesting... don't like the parts & labor album much, MoHa! reminds me of lightning bolt, and raccoo-oo-oon is sweet |
parts and labor blows
you know i wonder some times about musicians who strive to make their music unlistenable, and wonder more still of the listeners who pretend to enjoy it. perhaps this is the wrong forum for that |
no, they do quite thoroughly
|
Sun City Girls are good.
|
yeasayer - all hour cymbals
sufjan stevens - illnoise. i got like 9 of his albums today and this was the one i knew the name of so i checked it out first. quite good, not exactly what i expected but nice. gunna go through the rest of the stuff in the coming days |
sufjan stevens - illinois
bonnie 'prince' billy - i see a darkness |

i mean you have to look at that contextually. i can appreciate certain 'noise' acts more than others because they use that 'unlistenablility' tastefully and well. you'll always have acts that take that too far in one direction but with Sonic Youth, I think they were also doing it a lot more as a statement, I think the punk/no-wave scene at the time wanted to even musically embody their rejection of mainstream culture/music. their use of the extreme volume and atonality dynamics with their loud, fast punk music works so well.
|
emeralds- what happened is also ridiculously awesome
|
Efterklang - Magic Chairs
The Album Leaf - A Chorus Of Storytellers |
belong - october language

what |
am i way off, that's always what i liked about sonic youth, the punk dynamics mixed with all the crazy noise things they were doing. maybe im off on any historical references to no-wave or the new york scene they were a part of.
|
i like it when he plays the guitar with the drum stick
|
that reminds me, jim o rourke, what should i start with? should i just listen to the visitor
|
insignificance prolly.
|
no, they do quite thoroughly
no they don't because people that say they like unlistenable music just want to be on the cutting edge and impress their equally insecure white friends.
Thurston Moore in Kill Your Idols Basically said they'd strive to make their music unlistenable.
yeah well that's really dumb and it's killing music tbh
i mean you have to look at that contextually.
um
i can appreciate certain 'noise' acts more than others because they use that 'unlistenablility' tastefully and well.
music that incorporates noise is fine: colour revolt, cymbals eat guitars, pixies, etc. but when artists make track after track of noisy, chaotic and unlistenable music, they're not really musicians, just warhol wannabes who never bothered to learn how to play their instruments.
you'll always have acts that take that too far in one direction but with Sonic Youth, I think they were also doing it a lot more as a statement
that statement being: look how many people will "appreciate" the bullshit we're making.
I think the punk/no-wave scene at the time wanted to even musically embody their rejection of mainstream culture/music.
too bad they didn't want to make good music instead.
their use of the extreme volume and atonality dynamics with their loud, fast punk music works so well.
if you listen to music to 'appreciate' it instead of enjoy it, then sure. these are usually the same people that can't dance. |
idk if you're referencing cymbals eat guitars as noise i think we're on different pages?
|
not saying they're noise re-read please. just that bands that utilize noise, like sonic youth (although admittedly i've listened to them very little), or probably my favorite example, Volcano!, can do it in a way where they're still making music. parts and labor is like listening to someone shout at you for an album.
edit: cymbals eat guitars was a bad example |
insignificance prolly.
thx |
oh
TOO INDIE TO ARGUE |
it's hard to get an argument going when both sides have no idea what they're talking about
|
i don't even know what the argument was about i suppose, but im pretty sure cymbals eat guitars are not noise...
|
it's hard to get an argument going when both sides have no idea what they're talking about
that's usually the best way to guarantee a long and explosive argument don't get mad at me because you don't have opinions |
shugo tokumaru- exit
this is so awesome, can't believe i took this long to check this guy out |
i'm bored. chris quit becoming the new Matt?
|
let me just turn off my prince lasha & sonny simmons record here...
what does that mean? |
just quit being an indie fag and listen to some music with guitars.

|
no they don't because people that say they like unlistenable music just want to be on the cutting edge and impress their equally insecure white friends.
loooooooool Lightning Bolt - Lightning Bolt Lightning Bolt - Hypermagic Mountain |
yeah well that's really dumb and it's killing music tbh that statement being: look how many people will "appreciate" the bullshit we're making. too bad they didn't want to make good music instead.
The last one was my favorite. :p |
i know people listen to cutting edge **** to be noticed but i have known people that genuinely like new trash
apathy does a dishonor to the music and the listener. same applies to musicians that didn't take significant risks. just turnoffs, crowds the field ghastly city sleep |
