Was about to go home from college today when I bumped into a friend who asked if I felt like attending a lecture he was about to go to about how non-Christian Romans felt about Christians between 100 and 400 (before Constantine). Was mad interesting.
|
That sounds pretty damn cool. Were non-Christian Romans mad hater on Christians?
|
i could sit through a lecture if i was nodding out like, MAD hard, like harder than i have ever nodded before
dead basically |

Yeah, especially Tacitus and Plinius. They mostly saw Christians as being almost atheistic, because they didn't believe in any of the Roman gods that were obviously real as far as the Romans were concerned, and instead worshipped some untouchable god that was almost unknowable and was above all earthly thing yet still had emotions (reminded me of Nietzsche calling it nihilistic somehow), and pointed out all kinds of inconsistencies. As Christianity got more widespread, even before Constantine converted, Christians were unofficially tolerated, even though they would legally deserve the death sentence according to Roman laws. |
