Alright man, I'll check them both out.

Edit: Which album has the best solos with a good abundance of them?

Best: The Wall - Comfortably Numb

Most: Wish You Were Here probs...Shine on you Crazy Diamond is mostly guitar soloing more or less

pate 03-18-2009 07:09 AM

Davide Gilmour - Shut Up N Play Yer Guitar o wait

publicastration 03-18-2009 02:32 PM

I second Wish You Were Here

burtonbassist_102 03-20-2009 03:11 AM

one band that can be added to the "power metal" section is dream evil.

pate 03-20-2009 08:06 AM

Hell yes. Though I'd lump them more with traditional metal.

666DiMe666 03-25-2009 10:04 PM

Animals is an extremely underrated Floyd album.

Also Black Majesty, Hammerfall, Grave Digger, and Stratovarius for some awesome Power Metal.

OlDirtyPaule 03-27-2009 06:03 AM

Sorry,

didn't intend to. My english just isn't perfect so I used some "standard sentences". Mmmh, alright.

I really like Nihiling, a new german band playing progressive rock/metal. I do not know 'em personally and hope I am no fanboy.

I'm just convinced that some of you that like Oceansize, Tool, Opeth might really like to check out their debut album, M[e]iosis. Guitars are great.

I think Grotesque should be added in the Death section even though they are mostly uknown. Also the song above could be a rec for the guy who wanted something dark (it seems quite dark to me at some parts) if that's what you want.

electrickeye 03-28-2009 01:31 PM

Hey guys -

For any of you Between the Buried and Me fans, do you know of any bands that play music like the soft section of Selkies: The Endless Obsession? Thanks

Tyler 03-28-2009 01:41 PM

Al DiMeola's non-latin ****? idk?

EdgeOfSanity 03-29-2009 09:34 AM

I need a good band documentary rec.

The Feeding 03-29-2009 09:41 AM

You might like Canvas Solaris and Dysrhythmia. And maybe Watchtower but you might not like them.

Si1v3RfaNg 03-29-2009 04:58 PM

Anybody got some recomendations for elite melo death bands?

Ventriloquist 03-29-2009 05:37 PM

Dark Tranquillity, Arghoslent, Quo Vadis, Autumn Leaves.

Si1v3RfaNg 03-29-2009 06:49 PM

I know the first two, will check out the second two.

Anthracks 03-29-2009 07:03 PM

apophis

Tyler 03-31-2009 02:08 PM

I have the oddest urge for relatively modern sounding death metal. Of course there's a catch: I don't mind it sounding disappointingly sweet, but by no means do I want some chug dominated sweep fest. IDK. Just anything you guys think has stood above mediocrity.

Anthracks 03-31-2009 02:09 PM

have you already listened to the new ulcerate?

Tyler 03-31-2009 02:09 PM

nope.

is it bad tech/brutal metal?

Anthracks 03-31-2009 02:13 PM

to be honest i dont know how to describe it its just ****in awesome, really atmospheric

people say deathspell omega + gorguts + immolation + post-rock + some other bands or something

Xplisit 03-31-2009 02:51 PM

whats Aborted's best album??

cuz i got their 2001 disc today

Ventriloquist 03-31-2009 02:57 PM

How about Korog? They aren't top notch but since you said "anything you guys think has stood above mediocrity".

Anthracks 03-31-2009 03:07 PM

Best Death Metal albums so far this year (kind of in order):

Ulcerate – Everything is Fire (idk)
Fleshgod Apocalypse – Oracles (technical brutal classical)
Despondency - Revelation IV (Rise of the Nemesis) (technical slamming brutal)
Revolting - Dreadful Pleasures (old school, kinda swedish)
Psoriasis - Lethal Injection (french brutal - kinda like gorod but not as good)
Tribulation - The Horror (old school)
General Surgery - Corpus in Extremis: Analysing Necrocriticism (goregrind)
Egemony - Baptism of the Unborn (italian brutal)
Fondlecorpse - Creaturegore (old school goregrind)
Centaurus-A - Side Effects Expected (german technical)
Trepalium - XIII (french jazzy groovy technical)

take ur pick i guess, ulcerate is well above the rest though

The Feeding 03-31-2009 04:07 PM

IMO Aborted's best was Goremaggedon, followed by The Archaic Abbatoir and their recent stuff was kinda lame.

Cocaine: Have you heard the new Obscura? also Hacksaw To The Throat is pretty sick

Tyler 03-31-2009 04:09 PM

ill check both out, i havent heard obscura but i remember thinking HTTT were just okay

The Feeding 03-31-2009 04:10 PM

Wastlands is better than Tear My Eyes Out when it comes to HTTT but they are both damn good

EdgeOfSanity 03-31-2009 06:49 PM

Abominat. No full length or anything...just Myspace them...awesome Suffo worship.

Ulcerate - Of Fracture And Failure (there's a new one out but I haven't heard it)

Obscura - Cosmogenesis

Hacksaw To The Throat - Wastelands

Gory Blister - Skymorphosis (more of an old school sound however)

Tyler 03-31-2009 09:51 PM

no to gory blister, if iw anted to hear a band try and sound like death i'd listen to death

DBlitz 04-01-2009 05:39 AM
nope.

is it bad tech/brutal metal?
its like immolation with post-metal influences

listen to the new one its better than the old, not saying the older one is bad

Txus 04-01-2009 08:06 AM

Ulcerate rule.

Get some Nominon, tyler.

The Feeding 04-01-2009 10:50 AM

Hacksaw To The Throat are amazing!

Zoo 04-01-2009 11:35 AM
Kind of an open-ended request, but can anyone recommend me really dark sounding music, does not have to be metal-based. Looking for stuff with identifiable song structures, meaning traditional frameworks. Maybe something with folk, pop or electronic touches.
Die Verbannten Kinder Evas - Dusk and Void Become Alive

And I wouldn't waste my time with Obscura if I were you. You'd definitely like Tribulation though.

SKUDstorm 04-01-2009 07:44 PM

i have a craving for something extremely ****ing heavy
halp guise

Anthracks 04-01-2009 07:52 PM

SKUDstorm 04-01-2009 07:54 PM

i dunno how to define it.
http://www.myspace.com/timetoburnband

Zoo 04-01-2009 08:59 PM
