I've been wanting to get into classical music for a while now, but haven't dedicated my time to it yet. I am, however, taking a class that covers classical music!

Please!

*customary plug*

Check out Carl Orff. He ****ing ruled...one of my favorite composers. Carmina Burana is the way to go...it features the famous "O, Fortuna" (you'll recognize it when you hear it ;) ). Anyways, I would say that Orff is a great first place to go for a heavy metal/prog fan, as I think he captured alot of the same spirit and emotion that epic metal composers strive for.

since it's classical, no moral reasons will keep me away from the mp3s :p

Moses, if you still have that recording of yours, Fantasie Brilliante, could you please send it to me?

Excellent, I was really hoping you would carry on with these classical write ups Moses even without uploads. So with uploads in an added bonus.

Just out of curiosity, who are you going to be covering in the near future?

DeusExMachina 09-27-2005 04:02 PM

I'm definitely in. ethanrodkin@gmail.com

You rock.
Just out of curiosity, who are you going to be covering in the near future?
Well, I did a series a few months back but then got lazy so I'm going to first emial the links to the threads with all the uploads that I've had previously in all the composer's that I've done.

Good to know Kage, I'll also send you that Chopin album once I get the chance, but I've just been really busy lately.
Excellent, I was really hoping you would carry on with these classical write ups Moses even without uploads. So with uploads in an added bonus.
I was thinking about it but then it crossed my mind that not many people really read the stuff like Steerpike does. They just go for the uploads.
Thnx Moses, you're a great poster.
Thank you.
Isn't classical music public domain anyway? I'm not sure how copyright laws apply to specific recordings of classical pieces, but maybe there's a way links could be posted on the forums.
Not exactly. If it were my recordings then I'd be able to post them as much as I wanted, but since Vladmir Ashkenazy plays everything on the Chopin CD I have, I would have to get permission from him.
Moses, if you still have that recording of yours, Fantasie Brilliante, could you please send it to me?
I do have it and I'll post it in here if anyone else feels like listening to it even though it's bad quality and very sloppy..... : :p :

Silentia 09-27-2005 11:25 PM

Is it your own 'piece'?

Don't mention it, I know you've got stuff going on ;). As long as you continue with your mailing list I'll be happy.

Yeah, it's my own composition. I entered it in a state competition and I got second.

Yeah, this weekend I'm mailing all the tracks I've uploaded in the past FA's just to give some people that haven't seen them an idea of what I've covered, not to mention the advantage of hours of free music the first time around. This will take forever but I'm going to try and get it done this weekend.

Silentia 09-28-2005 01:55 PM
That's pretty cool! It was a classical composition I guess? Does it contain classical instuments as well, is it sampled, how did you do it?

Moses 09-28-2005 02:01 PM

I actually don't know much about it because my mother, who is a piano teacher, entered me into it and didn't give me much detail on how it was run. The only thing I remember was that there was an age group and I was in the 16 to 18 group since I'm 16 and we had to submit a recording and handwritten sheet music.

It was essentially a classical contest, and I entered a solo piano piece.
