i never got why people like mortal kombat. the only reason i can think of is the fatalities which don't add any thing to the gameplay. the fighting mechanics are really shallow compared to most fighting games (especially capcom ones.) it's all flash and no substance. marvel vs capcom, king of fighters and street fighter are all infinitely better. basically it's a game for fighting game noobs who just want to see people's heads chopped off and don't care about gameplay

mortal kombat II is my favorite. I'll play it occasionally I can do some fatalities and shit but idk I don't really have that much fun with it.

I love street fighter II and III though and the alpha series is pretty good too. Those games just have such better controls and a wayyyy deeper fighting system. Marvel vs. capcom 2 is great also.

I do because I'm the kind of person that paid $75 for an arcade stick (it's so much better) and plays street fighter for hours at a time. I know most of the special moves and combos and have spent a lot of time playing it with my friends.

Mortal Kombat is a casual fighting game. Street Fighter appeals to casual gamers because the basics are simple but also hardcore gamers because the fighting system is so deep. Characters in street fighter control better, there is more variety, etc. Also with street fighter the time you spend playing it is more rewarding because there is always something new to learn.


tl;dr: I'm really into fighting games and street fighter's deeper fighting system keeps it interesting while mortal kombats simplicity has gotten boring for me.
