t'each his own

i'm really looking forward to finishing this EP. it's going to have ridiculously badass art.

Bitchfork 01-29-2011 12:53 AM

my last ep was of the golden gai and it looked insane
the one before that was of a fan but it looks insanely bleak

Destroy All Girls 01-29-2011 06:09 AM

making noise trance

didn't believe me did you

Nepenthe 01-29-2011 09:22 AM

pretty cool haz

i've got a friend who is an amazing artist to make my art for me. i've got him making something very minimalist for this one, just black splotchy background with a coffin on it. which doesn't sound very cool in text but once you'll see it, well you'll see it.

this is the art for my 'long term' project i'm working on, that i will start recording once i get a new cab. this is shitty camera phone pic so it'll look alot better.

Destroy All Girls 01-29-2011 10:17 AM

thanks, I was just fucking around for half an hour. I think my sound has improved, though. artwork is not bad, that Iranian guy who used to post here keeps sending me paintings he has done and pestering me to make more music and use them as album art on last.fm

the biggest Cripples Crossing Highways fan there ever was, loooooooooool. An Iranian with a foot fetish and a boner for Adolf Hitler, idk how to feel about that

Nepenthe 01-29-2011 10:27 AM

hahaha, he's not a half bad artist. not my style tho.

yeah you definitely got a clearer and fuller sound there than your previous work that i've heard

Destroy All Girls 01-29-2011 10:42 AM

the thing is i'm really not that musical at all, I have trouble progressing anything beyond loops of repetition over and over and adding samples from B-grade movies to it

currently working through a how to play keyboard fundamentals video lol

http://www.artvista.net/Virtual_Grand_Piano.html

also just got this

Nepenthe 01-29-2011 10:50 AM

i'm kind of the opposite. i always have a ton of trouble coming up with something, like just a melody, a sound, something to get started on. takes me forever, most of the time i just give up. when i finally do get that something to start with, it's usually just by accident or a result of just fucking around with stuff.

but once i have that base then it becomes the easiest thing in the world, adding layers and progressing it just flows with ridiculous ease. like, i'm usually not even thinking about it i just kind of spontaneously continue adding to it not even needing to listen to what i'm adding as i'm doing it.

basically, i suck getting something started, but am awesome at fleshing it out

Bitchfork 01-29-2011 01:27 PM

The way I find it easiest to make noise progress is just to continually add new layers of noise while some deep bas throb unifies it together. It might seem really hard but I find approaching it in a simple way is this easiest way to do it. (that sounds dumb i know)

Bitchfork 01-29-2011 01:29 PM

and i look at what everyone makes their songs when they upload them and i feel quite amateurish about what i name my songs (before I'm ready to release them, that is) because i constantly use titles like
"=^..^=" or "†Ø" or "-=-=-=-"

Nepenthe 01-29-2011 01:30 PM

i'm weird about titles. i know it's the complete opposite of what you're supposed to do in any medium (music, writing, whatever), but i come up with the title first. it helps me get a clear vision of what i want it to sound like.

Bitchfork 01-29-2011 01:35 PM

I come up with my Astral Chapters titles first because they're ridiculous and they keep me focused on the lucid dream world it's doused in. But my ambient/noise improv tracks are generally titled with minimalistic characters.

APirate 01-29-2011 06:23 PM

yeah come up with funny sounding titles and then write the songs

Destroy All Girls 01-29-2011 07:00 PM

Pink & Yellow song titles are the best

APirate 01-29-2011 07:01 PM

I Told Her I Like Pop Punk

Destroy All Girls 01-29-2011 07:03 PM

you can do better than that

APirate 01-29-2011 07:04 PM

I Wanna Color You With Permanent Markers

Destroy All Girls 01-29-2011 07:07 PM

don't think I heard that one lol

APirate 01-29-2011 07:08 PM

http://www.box.net/shared/mosru83jnj

pretty annoying, just pitch shifted and reversed sampled from Mellow Yellow

Destroy All Girls 01-29-2011 07:09 PM

me you bitchfork and aaron should put out a compilation lol

nepenthe's music is too good for us

APirate 01-29-2011 07:11 PM
they are really boring and ho-hum for the most part. you'd probably like Hit & Run Holiday it's like some weird eclectic industrial rock throwback to 60's pop music
thats what awkward pop is

Destroy All Girls 01-29-2011 07:12 PM

lol well

i'm not that much of a fan but give it a try

APirate 01-29-2011 07:13 PM

the 60s pop of The Monkees is very industrial

first band to ever use a Moog

Destroy All Girls 01-29-2011 07:14 PM

is that strictly true

IIRC the Moog documentary I watched had some discussion about the people who apparently bought the first models in it and it didn't talk about The Monkees

APirate 01-29-2011 07:17 PM

as far as any marketable, non avant garde band releases go

The Doors - Strange Days
The Beatles - Sargent Peppers Lonely Hearts Club
The Monkees - Capricorn Aquarius Pisces and Jones Ltd
Rolling Stones - Their Satanic Majesties Request

are supposed to be the first four i think

Destroy All Girls 01-29-2011 07:18 PM

i'm listening to your song on repeat lol

any plans to ever perform this stuff live

APirate 01-29-2011 07:21 PM

i considered doing a kind of streamlined and more song-oriented pink and yellow project and try to perform it live with midi a while back

for the time being me and the band have been working on doing an extended, rock version of this song

http://www.box.net/shared/sxd0ldrm6r

Destroy All Girls 01-29-2011 07:34 PM

not bad

I like that drum sound

APirate 01-29-2011 07:37 PM

all pink and yellow drums are just drum sounds from other pink and yellow songs granulized to hell and back

The Girl in The Velvet Underground Shirt is probably the most tangled mess of songs made from pieces of each other ever made
