Oh my god. I suck at tieing a tie.

funkyhoney 07-23-2009 07:52 PM
Behringer pedals are good for what they cost, which is saying plenty when they cost like $30. Around here a "real" pedal will cost literally 10 times that much.
And it's a bloody outrage.

funkyhoney 07-23-2009 10:10 PM

So $60 on a padded genuine leather strap was totally worth it.

gaslight 07-23-2009 10:13 PM

I had one of those for a while. A girl borrowed it and never returned it.

I wasn't that fussed about them really, they're very comfortable with the leather but they can't be adjusted as precisely as the loopy-pully ones.

funkyhoney 07-23-2009 10:25 PM

That's true, but the 2cm gaps are close enough for me. I just got one because I really think it's important so I don't **** my back over. Plus I can still use novelty ones at gigs, just for practise. Just after working doing what I do and playing a fairly heavy bass so often and typing a lot my back's getting kinda ****ed up.

gaslight 07-23-2009 10:51 PM

I'm not sure a leather strap is going to do any more for your back then the other kind? Unless it's just rubbing on your neck or whatever.

Sablate McNuff 07-23-2009 11:05 PM

The wider strap creates more friction with your shirt, therefor allowing you to keep the bass at a more ergonomic position.

I use a Franklin leather strap that is 3-4! and I love it. Plus, it looks sexy with my bass. I might get a black leather one as well.

Still, I love my 2" straps for my 4-string or Carvin 6er.

cream of chicken soup nom nom nom

gaslight 07-23-2009 11:15 PM

I dunno how much I buy this ergonomic positioning stuff. If someone has before and after pics I'll believe it but I never noticed any improvement when I was using a wide leather strap aside from it sticking to my shirt and being a bit annoying that way.

Chickens can't make cream man. Let alone soup.

FunkMetalBass 07-23-2009 11:19 PM

I noticed a difference. I feel like I'm fighting the bass less (my Schecter is a bit neck-heavy) to keep it more vertical. I felt less strain in my upper back from it too.

gaslight 07-23-2009 11:31 PM

Hmm.

Actually, fair call, you guys do have heavier basses than me so I'm probably not likely to notice the advantages it might have in dealing with weight.

My bass is almost light enough that I can grab it with one hand around the butt end of it by the bridge, and hold it out nearly completely horizontal .

BenJammin 07-23-2009 11:37 PM

My bass isn't too heavy, but I had the body made from swamp ash for precisely that reason.

makes a big difference if you're playing a thunderbird.

gaslight 07-24-2009 01:34 AM

Yeah, I don't play one though so I'm in the clear :).

Pickle, do you mean Frank Black Pixies or Frank Black Fall of Troy? Or maybe someone else...?

Mr. Pickle 07-24-2009 06:39 AM

Pixies, yo. And a bunch of great solo stuff.

gaslight 07-24-2009 06:43 AM

I will download your file and listen when I've finished some recording.

FunkMetalBass 07-24-2009 08:55 AM

Mornin', Cas.

FunkMetalBass 07-24-2009 09:20 AM

Holy God, I'm so broke right now, and I just got paid today too.

I need to really cut back on my spendingand work some overtime.

Still don't know how I'm going to pay for school this term. sh*t.

fatbandit 07-24-2009 09:26 AM

I'm playing at a wedding in like an hour. Just kind of half dressed and waiting for my lift. Hurm. I'm bored and I don't like wearing a suit :/

gaslight 07-24-2009 09:32 AM

Awesome man, three hour set and lots of money?

I'd love some wedding gigs, I bought a suit and everything. I never bothered to get around to actually looking around for the gigs though.

fatbandit 07-24-2009 09:46 AM

Nah, it's not something I make a habit of. A mate of mine is getting married, and a bunch of us that he knows and play instruments are being the wedding band as a present. We're not that great - the drummer is good at playing the right things, just at the wrong tempos -_- Think we're only doing like an hour and a half or something.

I don't have the time to be in a functions band on top of my originals band, but if it ever went tits up, I'd be right in there making some money from it all :p
