Smokey the Terrible 12-06-2010 08:23 AM

mahsa why are you interested in the dentate gyrus

that's pretty obscure

dentate gyrus 12-06-2010 08:24 AM

hi Smokey, I'm interested in brain science because of my connection to industrial / cyberpunk

Smokey the Terrible 12-06-2010 08:26 AM

ah ok that's cool yeah I like that stuff too but I never got really in depth in the hippocampus, just some basic stuff from having read the Churchlands

that's cool though

what do you think of Clock DVA btw

dentate gyrus 12-06-2010 08:27 AM

Clock DVA is really hit or miss ... I like Buried Dreams a lot for example

Smokey the Terrible 12-06-2010 08:30 AM

damn that's pretty cool, I just asked nima for your yahoo id, hope you don't mind

dentate gyrus 12-06-2010 08:31 AM

I see that ... it's cool, it would be nice to talk to you :)

syllannibal 12-06-2010 08:32 AM

RouteOne 12-06-2010 02:10 PM

Meatplow 12-06-2010 02:19 PM

pretty cool, reminds me of early DiJ if it was more electro

RouteOne 12-06-2010 02:25 PM

He actually was in Death in June in their early years lol.

Meatplow 12-06-2010 02:40 PM

oh right this is what Patrick Leagas went on to do

top 5 DiJ albums for the hell of it -

Scorpion Wind (or Heaven Sent, whatever you want to call it)
Brown Book
Kapo!
The Wall of Sacrifice
Burial

RouteOne 12-06-2010 02:46 PM

Brown Book
But what ends, when the symbols shatter?
Kapo!
Oh, how we laughed
The wall of sacrifice

imo

Meatplow 12-06-2010 02:52 PM

need to listen to Symbols more

discography is incredibly patchy really the albums I like stand far above the ones I don't, love that kind of orchestrated ambient folk stuff they did in the mid 90's

any excuse to post this album cover

RouteOne 12-06-2010 02:56 PM

Symbols took me a few listens to really get into.

Yeah I agree that the releases are patchy. I'll think one album is genius but then the next is just wtffffff.

and yeah the cover is hilarious. I love all of his covers, even though others think some of them are absolutely terrible.

I still need to order his new one.

syllannibal 12-06-2010 03:43 PM

That's true Haz. most of JGT's works are flawless, in my opinion. just check out his "Volvox Turbo", its one the best electronic albums I've ever heard.

I liked those Sixth Comm tracks, especially "Together in Neiflheim". it was really good. really liked the vocals!!! in which album is that song? except Like Stukas Angels Fall? because I listen to full length albums rather than compilations.

they also have a song called "Like A Death In June": http://discogs.com/release/834932

syllannibal 12-06-2010 03:48 PM

ah, never mind, I searched. it's only on that compilation. maybe it's a rarities album...

Meatplow 12-06-2010 04:11 PM

haven't listened to that one

I wouldn't say his work is perfect by any stretch, something always initially bugs me about each Foetus album i've listened to at least. I've put it down to that he often doesn't sing in key, and is best when working with crazy, errant rhythms as he reveals some uncomfortable flaws when he pushes for melodicism like he has been doing a lot on his last few releases.

Over time spent listening though a ragged level of genius I can't quite describe becomes apparent, truly one of the most unique artists i've ever listened to. If one thing can be said even if he claims to not be the most technically competent musician around he takes full advantage of his studio tools, regularly trying to push the envelope with his own abilities. It's a bit of a hit or miss approach, but when it works, he achieves something nobody else could pull off with quite so much aplomb.

syllannibal 12-06-2010 04:30 PM

completely agreed. when I say flawless, I don't mean like the way Joe Satriani plays guitar or Pavarotti sings. I'm not talkin' about aesthetic values. there you put it very clearly when you said "uncomfortable flaws". for instance I like "NAIL" and "THAW" so much that I can't imagine them to be in another way.
but Haz you're a musician, of course you know about flaws more than I do! I'm just a cripple crossing highway...

ps- sorry for my English. kriSStoff is my English teacher, blame him.

Meatplow 12-06-2010 04:31 PM

lol Cripples Crossing Highways

learning english from Chris could be very bad for your international relations
i only have The Guilty Have No Pride, will do for now
at least get Burial for more post-punk

Meatplow 12-06-2010 04:36 PM

aww man

what if Weezer did a post-punk album

Meatplow 12-06-2010 04:39 PM

I thought each new album dictated your life each time it came out or something

syllannibal 12-06-2010 04:39 PM

Haz why don't ya like "But, What Ends When The Symbols Shatter¿"? very few listens on yr last.fm

Meatplow 12-06-2010 04:44 PM

it all makes sense now
Haz why don't ya like "But, What Ends When The Symbols Shatter¿"? very few listens on yr last.fm
I like it, just listened to the entire DiJ discography all at once when I was first getting into neofolk it sort of got lost in between everything else, never really returned to it for some reason

that God is disabled song keeps coming up on my random playlists idk what it is

Meatplow 12-06-2010 04:46 PM

"Don't you know God is disabled, is disabled, is disabled"

Meatplow 12-06-2010 05:16 PM

Meatplow 12-06-2010 05:34 PM

Meatplow 12-06-2010 05:37 PM

Meatplow 12-06-2010 05:50 PM

I could see you becoming this like weird Iggy Pop figure

Meatplow 12-06-2010 05:53 PM

syllannibal 12-06-2010 06:05 PM

syllannibal 12-06-2010 06:15 PM
