first thing that popped in my head was that its interesting that a white rapper topped all other musicians, rap or otherwise, not to mention he beat the beatle who had 30 million. He's possibly the most well known musician of all time...kind of a big deal

It's mildly interesting, I suppose. It's probably because he managed to peak right at the start of the decade and was no longer in his prime by the time record sales started to plummet in the later years. Not to diminish his achievement or anything, but he had the benefit of those massive-selling years, unlike, say, Kanye or even 50 Cent.
That and he was the biggest superstar on the planet in his day.
It's interesting to think now, that by his 3rd album, the one that really turned him from trailer park hero to *Eminem*, he was being called "arguably the best". Which, really, was a **** ton of hype, hype I don't think he's lived up to at all. But I'll be god damned if 'The Marshall Mathers LP' lets you think otherwise.
But really Em hit a formula with that album that worked so well, so he kept trying to recreate it. Granted he had some successes (Eminem Show), but more often than not he's just been sounding like a poor clone of himself since 2003.

A guy that raps about something other than money & fame makes more than all the guys that do NICE. And he's white.
