ill say that lil wayne is a good entertainer because he fits the current image of something that makes money and will sell CDs and that is the main reason he is popular. His music will be forgotten because it has no longevity, nothing very meaningful, and nothing even really interesting.

Again, i cant argue that he isnt a great entertainer, but a great musician he is not.

to any one who has a beef with Lil Wayne

just remember that if he had never blown up and become as successful as he is, Ludacris and Lil Jon would still be the most popular rappers on the radio. You remember those days, don't you?

Shindleria Praematurus
12-13-2009, 05:08 PM
It's really all the same . . . there needs to be hundreds & thousands of MCs (and musicians in general) given the amount of credit that only 10 or 100 get.

ive listened to all of tha block is hot and tha carter. not horrible, but not memorable other then me saying "this **** kinda sucks".

his new music i dont entertain because its completely over produced as is his image. I've seen three different videos of him throwing a hissy fit on stage and COMPLAINING to the audience about how long it took to fly to where he was and how bad his DJ is. the guy has more money then God and acts like a little baby.

i didnt think he was special back when all he said was Drop it like its hot balla blockin bullshit, i still dont think hes worth a damn.

Jaundice you avoided the question about the importance of Tha Carter III.

And if he's so good maybe he should make a good album. Instead of being a lazy ****er on his studio albums and "going hard" on his mixtapes, he should "bring that fire" to the studio.

..........lol, so that means that the Wu-Tang Clan, Nas, Cannibal Ox, MF Doom, and countless other black musicians beloved by white people are all talentless? okay man.

besides, "biggest" doesn't necessarily mean "sold the most records". i'm not saying that tha carter iii is a classic - i think it was a disappointment, compared to the mixtapes preceding it - but it's still a great album, and weezy is still a talented rapper.

uh, not really. past two or three, maybe. even then graduation wasn't too far behind in terms of sales and if you go back any further you're hitting 50 cent's peak popularity, and his first two albums were way bigger than carter iii was.

worth mentioning that both those albums have been out a good couple years longer than Carter III

I do vaguely remember that song being pretty big, but he didn't follow it up with many singles after the few big ones from that record

my view of Wayne's success, however, could be jaded by the fact that I live in New Orleans. he's fellated pretty constantly here and i'm not sure how much different it is in other places.

Apocalyptic Raids

true, but my point still stands if you look at the first year sales for those albums.

I do vaguely remember that song being pretty big, but he didn't follow it up with many singles after the few big ones from that record
the first bit of this sentence is kind of why i mentioned your age, for me it hit when i was like 16 or something and even though i wasn't into that music at all it was still everywhere.

and that's true about the singles, but the massacre just sold pooploads off of the success of his debut.

my view of Wayne's success, however, could be jaded by the fact that I live in New Orleans. he's fellated pretty constantly here and i'm not sure how much different it is in other places.
haha, the opposite is probably true for me. except for the odd appearance of lollipop i don't really hear any of the other singles much at all. mainstream rap from the usa really isn't very popular over here anymore. 50 cent on the other hand, came out in a time when that stuff was still popular from eminem/dr. dre having huge success and since he was sort of viewed like their protege it was huge.

then you're showing your age.

50 Cent was bigger than Lil Wayne is.

There was definitely never a time when 50 Cent was spitting a verse on every single song on the radio.

Again, I don't know how universal this is but it's not uncommon for me to hear like five or six songs on the radio back to back that all have Wayne popping in at some point.

50 Cent might have had more sales and such but I don't think he ever had the status that Wayne has right now

illmitch
12-16-2009, 03:57 PM
i think the dynamics of the scene were different though. massive success when 50 blew up wasn't measured in guest spots.
