It's inevitable that every year i'll miss something decent that deserves to be on my year end list. While I can't really do much about it with other genres (unless I didn't want to have a life), I can with my main genre. Here are all hip-hop/ soul records appearing on my best of 2009 list:

P.O.S. - Never Better (3.9/5)
Finale - A Pipe Dream and a Promise (3.9/5)
Georgia Anne Muldrow - Umsindo (3.8/5)

Felt - Felt 3 A Tribute to Rosie Perez
Crooked I - Mr. Pig Face Weapon Waist
Wale - Attention Deficit

I know you said you weren't bothered, but the BlakRoc album is at least better than some of those tier 4 releases.

Nice collection of albums though, glad to see some love for Sholi. Latest Future of the Left is worth a listen if you haven't checked that out.

I liked it for the most part... awesome straight ahead rock n' roll. definitely was a little dull, but rock/hard rock are dull genres over all nowadays without adding any proginess.

kyle, i keep trying to listen to blackroc, but i turn it off after 30 seconds and go back to **** i'm supposed to review asap (ie felt 3 and 50 cent -_-). I'll get to it.

Thanks for the other recs ppl, i'll get em. keep em coming bros.

Finally got around to this Sol.illaquists of Sound record, really enjoying it lots. Listened to the new Sole & Skyrider Band last night too, it's pretty good in places but I'm not as enthusiastic about it as others.

Also, I'd second the Mulatu Astatke and Heliocentrics record, it's great.

all these albums are 3's and above for me:

dj paul - scale-a-ton
juicy j - hustle till i die
gucci mane - writing on da wall
gucci mane - the burrprint
gucci mane - cold war series

haven't listened to G-Side - Huntsville International yet, but i can easily recommend it based on the strength of their last album

in other genres, Dinosaur Jr. - Farm is definitely one of my favorite releases of the year

and, don't know if you like any metal, but Blut Aus Nord - Memoria Vetusta II is amazing

I kinda checked out on hip-hop for awhile because I've been focusing on my own stuff but I'm checkin some stuff lately and Myka 9's new stuff is looking promising.

which gucci record is the best.

hmmm. probably the burrprint. i think Guccimerica or Brrrussia might be more cohesive as albums (both are from the Cold War), but i'm more familiar with the Burrprint.
