Persian war elephants are where it's at.
That's where the halb's and scorpions came in. I always used to counter that **** as Celtics with a shitload of Scorpions and trebs... this game brings back memories... Oasis, Blackforest... goldrush...
The third one was never that cult like IMO. Lost alot of it's appeal.

nah its way more about just spamming your most powerful troops and no real focus on economy or knowing how to counter stuff. and almost every game comes down to who has the biggest ranged military.
whereas in 2 as goths you could just run over anyone with husks.

Well I did only play deathmatch in the 2nd one... LMAO. That was some crazy **** doing 4v4's with all good players.

well, i've got the first aoe and the rise of rome expansion and i've completely played it out, so i'm looking to upgrade. i can get the gold edition of III for like $20, but would you recommend going with II instead?

YEP... and you could still do that in deathmath too... I remember the monstrous bombard towers you could create at choke points in black forest. I used to play purposely as bad civs alot of the time like Chinese in death match.
My longest runs had to be Britons and Celtics though. I don't know if anyone still plays the 2nd or 3rd one online but I wish... I'd prob take it back out if there was a fair amount.

houses, man when i sued to play aoe 2 when msn gaming zone was around, i had my people building castles and towers mid battle lol.
i used to pally rush alot, then i went a different method, i picked brits and starting building 3 castles round my town center and a wall to totally shield myself from the pally rush, worked most of the time, once those 3 casltes were up....they stopped that fuking rushing, gah they need to like remake this game...aoe 2 is a classic

I used to love sending patrols of solders, just 5 or 6, on really mindless paths all over the maps so it looked like you were attacking someone else. 5 or so of them wandering around everywhere is the ultimate distraction while you build.

goths and huns here, i'm a rusher. i usually played the ones were you started off nomadic or w/e that was my favorite. also that way if you were aztecs who got a villager hp bonus i think it was you could just go find someone and kill them with your villagers before they could build a TC

Yah Goths were always fun, one time we did a 3v3 team Islands battle and 2 of the people on my team (myself included) were Goths and the other Norway so he harassed everyones navy and we took over an edge of their island built like 10 barracks and just pumped out huskarls til their island was wiped clean of life. :evil:

my favourite map was the islands so you had this island to yourself and you just sailed across the bay to detroy the enemy

my favourite thing to do is to lock some peasants inbetween some walls, and make them work and work till my supplies are all stocked up.
regarding age of empires, i never played it, but i would like to try
