can anyone rec some epic contemporary classical music? music akin to the music in epic video games alá Neverwinter Nights, Warcraft, Final Fantasy and movies such as Lord of the Rings and so on would be great.

so big and epic are the keywords. I'm really into the "medieval" sound. as in the medieval-inspired fantasy game/movie music. stuff inspired by the Tolkien universe.

halp. :)

Check out Craig Armstrong's soundtrack for Elizabeth: The Golden Age, especially the songs Bess & Raleigh Dance and Opening.

You might enjoy Kashiwa Daisuke - Program Music I, not quite the same as Final Fantasy and LOTR style music - but some points in the two songs are truly epic. Here is the review http://www.sputnikmusic.com/album.php?albumid=23778

And finally you should check out Yoko Shimomura's Drammatica, I have no doubt you'll enjoy it.
