Well I just wanted to start a running thread. You might call it jogging, cardio, sprinting, stair climbing, or w/e. But if it involves moving your two legs and your feet hitting the ground, here is your thread.

I've always jogged some. Been going to the gym for around 5 or 6 years, sometimes more and sometimes less. But lately its been more then ever because it seems I have discovered I love to run.

I hit the treadmill and go four or five miles depending on my stamina that day. I full out jog / run / sprint and use a slight incline from time to time. But mostly its just running flat and straight. And tbh I really can't describe it. It used to feel like a chore and sort of boring. Now its turned into a passion.

So, I think gradually I am becoming a "runner." I feel like when my four or five miles are up I could go more. Put someone with a whip behind me and I'll just go forever.

Part of it is mental. And I think that has something to do with the increased distance. Going just a couple miles is one thing...doubling and tripling it is another experience. Its time to think, to be determined, to feel the sweat dripping off me, and the sensation of hurling myself forward (even though its treadmill you know what i mean). I guess you can say I find it exhilarating. That is my attraction to it so far as I understand. And the challenge, of course.

Anyway just wondering who here might consider themselves "runners," what do you get out of it, any philosophy attached to it, or is it just simple exercise? For me its becoming a passion and its just so weird. I want to know more about it.

Also whats a good running shoe? I have some Starters I got at Walmart for $22 (original $40) and they seem fine so far. But....I will need new ones.

Anyway... discuss running!

I have a bum knee from sprinting on an indoor track. I went on a 5 mile run over a month ago and my knee hurt for a week.

I stick to riding my bike :)

Asics are where its at for running. Not a fan of treadmills though, I gotta see things going by me, gotta see different things around me.

Cadence while running (though I don't get to sing it anymore :() is one of my favorite things in the world. I can go for miles and miles if I'm listening to cadence.

Now thinking about this is making me want to go for a run, but I just got home from work...

i think it might be on account of the elements. and some might find it motivating

i don't think i would enjoy running in rain, wind, or cold too much. i didn't join the gym to run....but its the reason why i go now. so i suppose it works out

i was looking at some treadmills for my apartment. but where to put it? it would have to be a substantial treadmill, also. gym quality ones start at around $1000 and go up from there. not bad...but thats a lot of gym dues at $30 a month where i go

nordic track has some nice ones

I like running on the indoor track at our gym. But I usually go down and lift some as well afterwards.

I try to go running at least three a week times a week, and I usually run at least three or four miles each time. Usually if I go any more than that, I feel it in my right knee the next day when I wake up, so I usually try to hold back from going as much as I can. If I really tried, I could probably do up to nine or ten miles.
