China isn't going to become a real hegemon unless they seriously clean house

And if they do, then that might be ok

Iskandar
07-14-2009, 02:50 AM
No they will either way.

07-14-2009, 02:59 AM
huh

How can they be a hegemon with the current brain drain

Iskandar
07-14-2009, 03:04 AM
It's pretty much impossible for China not to be a hegemon because they're huge and have one and a half billion people and a huge army and most importantly a booming economy which we're all reliant on for international trade. Come on dude everyone's been talking about this for like the past five years or more.

1338 h4x0r
07-14-2009, 03:06 AM
Yeah but having a zillion plastic bead factories and a sea of AK-armed soldiers alone isn't sufficient for hegemony these days

The brain drain in China is particularly problematic

Iskandar
07-14-2009, 03:08 AM
Yes it is.

Ya so you can't be a real hegemon in the 21st century with 2/3 of your most useful people leaving the country every year

I was thinking the other day....since China actually has plans drafted to go to the moon relatively soon in the future, will they take our flag down and put up theirs? Could that possibly be seen as an act of war?

It's the same thing as flying the US flag at the National People's Congress: a symbolic violation of sovereignty

obv the CPC is crappy because it's run by ching chong people who don't understand freedom and arent oppress their people and dont believe in democracy which is the pinnale of civilised thought

They do oppress their people. Here's one recent, prominent example:

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Charter_08

As a Turk and Central Asian philologist, you are most likely familiar with the recent happenings in Xinjiang, and quite possibly even sympathetic with the Uighur population (?)

Another example is a little more personal: a bunch of my tudou videos got removed or their metadata edited because of "politically sensitive" content. I put a lot of effort into putting them up

But, more seriously, I imagine that the lack of freedom is one reason why 2/3 of Chinese who go abroad for their education don't go back. Among those who leave are a lot of real intellectuals. The CPC isn't doing their country any favors.

I was thinking the other day....since China actually has plans drafted to go to the moon relatively soon in the future, will they take our flag down and put up theirs? Could that possibly be seen as an act of war?

Why would they do that? That's just gratuitous douchebaggery. Not even the CPC would orchestrate such a manuever.

oh yeah and btw

It's the same thing as flying the US flag at the National People's Congress: a symbolic violation of sovereignty. No it's not. It's in deference to the other country. It's like how we lowered our flags after 9/11.

I said the CPC was crappy. You suggested I think it's crappy because the Chinese are Asians, then attributed that opinion to me when I never actually stated it.

It could be seen as an aggressive gesture from a diplomatic point of view though.

More republican nonsense.

This is the exact reason why our country is where it is. Terrible foreign policy which assumes that any ounce of respect equates to 'kissing up.'

Its better we sacrifice our pride for the long run then end up on our knees because we failed to do so.

No I'm talking about your specific tendency to kiss the *** of every (nominally) Marxist-Leninist regime around

Its better we sacrifice our pride for the long run then end up on our knees because we failed to do so.

News flash: China is the world's factory; the last something really important was invented there was centuries ago; our economic relationship with them is level; their economic growth is unsustainable; they're not going to become a hegemon unless a lot of **** changes

I don't know why you feel the need to overreact to a "breach of sovereignty" when its a sign of respect, and feel that everyone who thinks this isn't a breach of any kind is automatically a Pinko-Communist sympathizer.

When you do away with your extremist tendencies, you can really learn a lot about people. For one, The world is not so black-and-white, and you can learn from someone who disagrees with you.

If you're just trolling then forgive me taking you seriously.

our economic relationship with them is level
Absolute nonsense

With a large economy, a large military, and a hand in many developing nations (Mostly in Africa) they are very much on the road to Hegemony.
