Right so me, my dad and my brother are looking to have a little home gym but don't really know what brands or anything to look at. We want:
- Free weights
- Bench press
- Rowing machine
Bear in mind I know **** all about it (my dad and brother know more but I figured some of you might be able to help) so any suggestions are going to be helpful. Haven't got a particular budget, just in the realm of equipment that's going to last that's reasonably priced. Not looking for top notch stuff, just want it to do the job really.
Cheers.

Well like I said I don't know much but if I'm not mistaken a rowing machine is basically a full body workout because it uses so many muscles of the body? Why are they better things to have?

Rowing is more of a cardiovascular exercise, you won't build up much muscle as far as I know. It's a lot more fun than running IMO. What nungman said is good. Though, a squat rack might take up some space. I'd also buy a Z-bar(/w weights ofc) and dumbbells(one that you can put on weights, like a little bad. I dunno what they are called). That'll prevent you from buying dumbbells with different weights. Hope this helped a bit.

Chin-up bars are good, especially if it can double as a sit-up bar or push-up bar too. Should be pretty cheap aswell.

A power rack (squat rack), an adjustable bench (flat, incline, decline), Olympic barbell, EZ Curl barbell, and some plates is all you really need.
You can do so much with a power rack.

I only use them if I'm doing the push up exercise with my feet on the bench. But yeah useful.

whats with all the heavy lifting and toning stuff?
get some cardio in there. unless you already run on the street or a track or w/e
a simple low cost treadmill would be good. and you could cross train with it. do some cardio...a few sets of reps with the weights...more cadio, repeat, etc...

cardio is so much more important

because cardio is pointless if you have no muscle to give your body shape
and it's just as easy to make a cardio session out of lifting weights
plus you don't need a treadmill to do cardio. you can, you know, run around outside
