I only listen to music that was part of the mail art phenomenon to be released on one or two cassettes and disseminated through the post in the late 70's and now considered long lost and bloggers could only ever dream of hosting

Uhh, no. I also enjoy amature recordings of old Irish tunes played on cheap tin flutes. You may not like it, but I do.

Well, of course, to each his own. But to me, personally, Irish and Celtic folk sounds great even when recorded poorly and played on cheap instruments. In fact, that is one of the things that I like so much about the music.
