View Full Version : If there was an afterlife, would you want it?

I always thought it was fairly presumptuous of God to think that just because he's offered us something we're being rude for turning it down. I mean, I never even chose to come to the party in the first place. It's like:

"Hey man, I'll buy you a drink!"
"Oh, gee, thanks guy!"
"But you have to cut your own balls off"
"Oh.. well no thank you then!"
"No, I wasn't offering. You have to cut your own balls off"
"But you just sa-*SCHWING..plonk..plonk*"

Y'know.. I've had enough to drink.. I just wanna go home now. I don't wanna be drunk for an eternity. I'd rather just sleep. How can you coax somebody who wants nothing? Should I feel obliged to want anything?

Does perfection need to be a static thing?

Eternity for a sentient being would be torture, hence why I voted no.

I sometimes wonder what would happen if you could live for eternity, but were given a pill which would kill you peacefully, how long would it be before people took it (assuming their health was decent)? And how much difference would it make if it was the opposite way round, you had to actively keep yourself alive with pills? And what about if the pill didn't kill you instantly, but allowed you to age and die like everyone else? Just a thought.

But no, I wouldn't want an afterlife.

Depends heavily on the circumstances

If the afterlife were interesting, I'd opt in

The Christian / Islamic Heaven sounds nothing less than ghastly

nothing wrong with being immortal, at least on earth. don't know about the whole heaven bit - opportunities seem limited
