Personally, I'm holding out for a mission to the subsurface of Europa

Can't wait to find something out there. . . that'll make me so happy

What would be really awesome would be seeing images of multicellular, macroscopic life beamed back to us from the oceans of Europa, like blind fish or something
It's a little outlandish I guess but it could happen

idk why people get excited about water its not like its a pre-requisite for life

Titan might also harbor life
Hell, Carl Sagan suggested that there might be life in Jupiter's turbulent atmosphere, made of thin hydrocarbon membranes

From what we know, it is. And if we go by what we know, we're about 1,000,000 times more likely to find something than if we don't go by what we know

Titan is a weird *** place. liquid water mixes with ammonia and makes this really viscous lava type material that erupts from under the surface. or so my astronomy class told me. sounds speculative to me, but still pretty weird.

You asked why we are looking for water. Obviously I am going to give you a simple explanation

The Ammonia on Titan is comparable to water on Earth according to the Cassini-Huygens mission (if I remember rightly).

I'd be more excited if governments stop spending on outlandish space missions, and instead corrected their debt at home first.

The "basic research has no use" fallacy
Smokey D

It's a legitimate complaint, actually.
the complaint being that he doesn't care about long term benefits that might flow from deep space exploration or at least he doesn't care more than he cares about pressing issues at home.
If you're going to call that fallacious you have to call any sort of prioritization fallacious and that's just dumb.

Well we need basic research to advance
Smokey D

Yeah presumably we also could do with reduced debt ratios too.
Or basic research in other areas.

I'm just a simple economist. I think we should pay for what we've purchased before we buy a new toy.

Watch all episodes of Cosmos or read the book and you will understand why space exploration is vital

I dunno, read an economics text book and you'll understand why low debt ratios are pretty good too.
Or read a medicine textbook and you'll understand why cancer research is vital.

Japan has a huge debt ratio lol
Even now, we're in pretty good shape

Japan has a high debt ratio ergo irresponsible spending by the US is okay.
lol wut?

Spending on the space program is much more responsible than ridiculous governmental ceremonies
Let's slash their funding first lol
