This band deserves their own thread, it's how amazing they are.

Idk, The Mantle IMO is the worst of their three "full" albums, but it's still amazing. I think The White EP is the best of the EP's.

Nah, I like AATG the best, it may not be as impressive instrument-wise, but I like the even more calming effect of that album. Don't get me wrong though, I still love The Mantle.

Not many guys really got The White EP but because IMO they compared it to Ashes and The Mantle; EP was really great. No matter what they release next I'll be checking it out because the band as a whole is great, case ****ing closed.

Yeah their up there in my favorites.

Ashes Against the Grain winning is almost as lol as Anglachel acting like he's super mature because he liked Agalloch when he was fourteen but he's since grown out of them (and he's, what, 15 now?)

Pale Folklore, though sometimes it's the Mantle. I love Ashes, too, but it's never in the running.
Si1v3RfaNg
06-20-2009, 04:09 PM
Idk I like how relaxing Ashes is... but both The Mantle and Pale Folklore are better when it comes to the instruments.

I agree very much but still doesn't mean people can't appreciate it for what the musicians in the band are actually playing. I mean it's not about the music; it's about the message.

What are you talking about? I'm not saying they need to be technical or that I care. I'm saying I have no idea what Silverfang is on about when he talks about PF or TM being "more instrumentally impressive".
Nostalgia
06-20-2009, 04:17 PM
Pale Folklore is terribly cheesy, though almost every Agalloch album is. The Mantle used to be my favorite, but the only thing I listen to from them is "Tomorrow Will Never Come" and " From Which of this Oak." FWTO is probably my favorite release from them, a very different Agalloch you see there.

I was just simply agreeing with what you were saying to be honest!
Si1v3RfaNg

No I don't mean it's technically proficient or anything... I just mean the instruments do more on The Mantle and Pale Folklore, whereas IMO the songwriting is better on Ashes.

Well AATG is more post-rock IMO. It has some amazing songs, but there's only two or three I like and I think the rest of the album is crap.
Si1v3RfaNg

:( Well I'd say my second favorite as of now is The White EP... but as for their LP's I'd say the second best is Pale Folklore.

Hmm well nothing about the band is really post-rock AT ALL IMO but I get where you're coming from. Also calling the tracks that you don't get "crap" is a bit of a dick move.

i dont even listen to post rock/post metal and i can tell that AATG has TONS of post-rock influences.

This White Mountain is just a filler song with nothing interesting to display, and out of the three "Fortress" songs Bloodbirds is the only one even mildly good. I haven't listened to the album in a while, but what I remember it dragged on even more than their previous albums.
I love Agalloch, I just know they're a little pretentious and not as amazing as everyone makes them out to be.

Agalloch are seriously good. I'm a really pretentious songwriter but this band have a majorly good grasp of albums, as a musical concept; not just something you listen to from start to finish as a laugh but something you can hear and absorb

i am a really big fan of Agalloch. The Mantle is their best, imo, with Pale Folklore a close second. Ashes could've been their best but like someone else before me mentioned, there is some filler on that album, at least to me, and obviously to him. The album starts off great but once it gets past track 5, i usually turn it off.

White EP was ****ing terrible
How was it terrible?
It's very boring, it goes nowhere and it lacks the Agalloch "feel" i loved. It's just a very different agalloch sound, even morseo than AATG, and I really hope they don't follow that path. I don't know if they're releasing another album either way.
I feel like listening FWOTO, such a great album.

It's probably their second best release after The Mantle. But that's just me.

I am physically unable to vote in this poll. Idk, Ashes used to be my favorite, but The Mantle has creeped its way up there to side with Ashes.
I personally like The White, by the way. Just not in the way that it can make you suddenly notice at some intense moments that your mouth is open and that your shoulders have sagged down.
Fire Above, Ice Below, In The Shadow Of Our Pale Companion and Blood Birds are such powerful songs.
