i did a quick search and no thread. wtf.
Cinematic Trailer was released a few days (maybe more idk) back
http://swtor.com/media/trailers/deceived-cinematic-trailer
****ing tight.

Confirmed classes: Bounty Hunter/Trooper, Smuggler, Sith/Jedi
Members of the two main factions – the Galactic Republic and Sith Empire – will have different moralities; the project's key focus is to differentiate between the player's faction and morality. Each faction will contain different classes, each with a distinct backstory and a branching storyline affected by players' moral choices.Classes will also be exclusive to one faction or the other. Three classes have been confirmed: the Bounty Hunter for the Sith Empire, and the Trooper and Smuggler for the Galactic Republic. Although each class will have a distinct storyline, they will be integrated with the game's overall arc.

Players' choices will permanently open or close storylines and affect players' non-player character (NPC) companions. The game's developers believe that the game will provide more context for characters' missions and quests than other MMORPGs offer. Players will be able to choose from a variety of NPCs, although spending time with a single companion will help more in developing story and content than dividing time among several. It is possible for players to "blow it big time" if they fail to meet NPCs' expectation. Players will also have access to dozens of planets, including Korriban, Ord Mantell, Nal Hutta, and Tython.

bioware dont fail me now
anywho anyone excited for thsi game?
i've been hearing massive amounts of rumors about it some good (uh, lightsabers) some bad (charging based on time played) and some eh (graphics still not that great, apparently combat is supposed to be really cool looking which could case massive lag/fun bugs/exploits to deal with)

If it was an mmorpg, it would be severely impaired on the 360. I really wish this franchise could have continued in the path of Mass Effect and stayed a single player rpg. Mass Effect was good, but did not have enough lightsabers.

I freakin hate MMO's and the time they require.

They're claiming they're doing fully voiced NPCs and PCs. Sounds ambitious.

The developers working for Bioware have spoken publicly concerning the use of voice actors for each and every non-player and player character that will populate the game. It seems like a rather ambitious task.

I predict this game will suck. I think it will be a very stringent multiplayer roleplaying game with little to no interaction required to play the game through.

No pvp, no real reason to play. I understand there will be limited pvp by way of BGs or duels, but without large scale war, what's the point?

You can play KOTOR or KOTOR II and have it be the same experience as this, just without the glorified pretty looking chatroom.

My idea of a Star Wars game is a reskinned Planetside. All the vehicles. All the weapons. All the skills. None of the alpha jedi class stupidity. Empire vs Rebels.

Bioware are fantastic, but this game will not keep anyone interested for very long.

I actually heard something about this years ago. I was pulled aside in the mall to take a survey with my opinion on it. Haven't heard anything about it since. Fixing to check out the trailer. I'm not a huge Star Wars person, but The Force Unleashed was awesome and this one excites me as well.

EDIT: Trailer is ****ing sick.

The trailer is cinematic, and is no indication of actual game play.

With that said, yea it's awesome.

ThePatient

That does look really great, but I don't know how excited I really am about it, even being the huge Star Wars/KOTOR fan that I am.

A. I've never been into pure computer gaming, so I never have a computer that can run top-flight games.
B. I don't have the time to invest in MMORPGs to be successful enough to enjoy the game.
C. I generally like single-player games more, because I can't stand playing online with idiots.

Another regular KOTOR would make me much happier.

I wanted to make a thread on this awhile ago, but all in all the game is looking sweet so far. The player models look awesome, still somewhat realistic, but styalized at the same time. I cannot wait, but will have to for this game to release. Huge star wars fan, huge kotor fan and Bioware looks to be doing a tip top job so far.

Prerendered is not entirely indicative of what it will look like unless you saw game play somewhere I did not.

I want a real KOTOR III. One without story lines cut at the last minute, and all of the polish and shine of a next gen system.

SWG was bugged to hell, it totally bombed. It could have been fantastic, but today's technology allows us to do so much more.

DBoons Ghost
06-03-2009, 03:53 PM
SWG was the greatest sandbox MMO ever. Yes it was buggy and had a ton of issues, but the game as it was released would have been awesome if they had fixed the issues that plagued it instead of making it worse and worse with every patch and fix.

I played it for the first year since release. Sony ruined what could have been the greatest MMO ever.

Bioware is not going to make the same mistake, but TOR is not a sandbox MMO. It's a traditional MMORPG. I mean, if there is pvp in the game similar to what transpired in that cinematic trailer, I'm sold.

Mr. Ron
06-03-2009, 04:23 PM
I'm going to remain a bit optimistic. Until I see game play I won't pass judgment just yet.

Shady Ultima
06-03-2009, 04:23 PM
SWG should have been amazing, I thought the idea was brilliant.

I really don't know about Kotor being an MMO. I mean, I loved the first one, and never played the second, but since MMO's storylines are usually non-existant, it probably won't do much for me.

I really think the Rebels/Empire would be awesome, a lot like WoW in the terms of gameplay, but instead of choosing your class, you'd start as a soldier, and as you level up and choose what skills to increase, you could choose Bounty Hunter or Sith or Rebel Leader or Jedi, or one of a ton of other classses. They'd just have to de-power the Jedi/Sith because everyone would end up playing one class. And the races available would be staggering.

Jacaranda
06-04-2009, 12:37 PM
now i'm reading they will charge people not by time played but if someone wants the best gear they have to buy it. hoping its just rumors

no pvp wat.

i wish bioware would ditch mass effect and just make more kotors. mass effect was the exact same as kotor except without the star wars plot line. plus i thought the mass effect galaxy was lame.

i think no matter what tons of people will make siths/jedis just for the lightsaber.

DBoons Ghost
06-04-2009, 12:42 PM
Honestly I wouldn't mind if they let us casual types just buy the uber gear. I don't have time to play MMOs as it is, so that would be perfect for players like me who just want to jump in for a few hours and kill people.

But what's the point of buying nice gear if there is no pvp?

Jacaranda
06-04-2009, 12:44 PM
if you had to buy gear then it would be a rich suburban nerds wet dream

i highly doubt they would do that and if they did it would just destroy any desire i had to play the game.

DBoons Ghost
06-04-2009, 12:47 PM
Why a rich suburban nerd and not me? I'm not a rich suburban nerd. I'm a guy who works like a dog and has little time for MMOs but I still love them.

The days of time sinking people into destroying their lives to play MMOs have to end.

I understand the root of your argument against it though. It undermines all the hard work you would normally put into the game to earn such rewards the right way.

Mr. Ron
06-04-2009, 12:49 PM
I just hope that the quests or mission or w/e aren't like WoW ones. "Go here and kill 10 guys" or "fly here and gather 15 herbs". zzZZzzZZZzzzZZZ......

DBoons Ghost
06-04-2009, 12:50 PM
That's pretty much the MMO standard, not just WoW.

I think they have a different approach from all that I've read, but every game has claimed that and in the end, it's all the same crap.

Jacaranda
06-04-2009, 12:50 PM
and it alienates a large number of college students who play mmos because its a cheaper form of entertainment then say buying video games
aka me

but really the last thing i want to do is get beaten by a bunch of 13 yr olds who just bought everything to make themselves really good.

they said they are adding a 4th dimension to mmos and that each class has certain quest lines they do in order to shape their character

DBoons Ghost
06-04-2009, 12:53 PM
That begins a whole other debate Jacaranda.. I am sure the game will require some skill and coordination, and not just turn awesome pvp gear into the "I win button". No game would be dumb enough to do that. It defeats the whole purpose.

Star Wars games tend to attract a more mature level of nerd. I thought it was only WoW that had 13 year old weenies playing it.

Either way, with no real pvp game built into TOR at release, it's a fairly moot argument.

At least check it out at yon kommunist liebrerie. It's highly regarded in quality because of how well she wrote the series. If you're looking at "not the same quality", Episode I and II had good concepts but were horribly structured. III was the only saving grace of the prequel trilogy.

It seems that the Jedi conduct pertaining to dueling is akin to 17th century court sword duels. The only weapon used is the sword itself. Although in this case force powers are used when necessary and not excessively.
