Sometimes the vocalist's voice is perfect and I really want to hear it, other times it sounds like a cheese grater on a chalk board. Super slow stuff too, so generally can't get through an album. Good lyrics in general though.

Only heard one song, "We Both Go Down Together" and I like that, although it's losing it's repeat appeal fast.

Hazards of Love is the best cd of 09....

I think Hazards of Love is fantastic, but the concept behind it is utterly ridiculous. I tend to ignore when listening to the album, and try to replace the shape shifting forest men and forest queens with just regular people. It becomes infinitely more enjoyable, though Colin Meloy would certainly hang his head shame to hear such a thing. Musically, the album is simply fantastic and I wouldn't change a thing.
Honestly this was the first album I heard from them. I checked out Picaresque afterward and thought it fantastic as well. I still need to get The Crane Wife.
I wish I could say I've been a fan for longer, but better late than never right?

Not a big fan of their newer, more experimental stuff, but I like their folk rock songs

Don't care for them. But I love Anne Briggs very much, which is where the title The Hazards of Love came from. So all Decemberist fans and even those like myself who aren't fond of them, check out Anne Briggs, the most beautiful voice in folk music.

I enjoy their more straight up folk sound to their prog folk sound, but I love it all.
