View Full Version : films that piss you off

for me its step up to the streets. Dunno it might be the crappy music or using hip dancing as a replacement for plot and engaging characters but this movie pisses me off a lot.
what other films just really grind your gears?
Tripp_chaos

Any movie aimed at hip young kids usually (nowadays) some rapper/dancer that brings their whole neighborhood or whatever into some depressing story that gets them all towards the same goal through some cheezy *** montage that would never happen because of bureaucratic procedures and reality/Disney movie/show spinoffs ie. anything to do with some pop idol(s) that have no talent and prove it time and time again yet still sell out... Also Movies that come out in the early year and say that they are the (funniest, best, dramatic, sellout, etc) of the year...
RunAmokRampant
05-28-2009, 11:04 PM
yes exactly. Trying to sell a feel good movie but ends up just lame because it's so far removed from reality that the message of 'being true to yourself' etc etc feels contrived and empty.
Tripp_chaos
05-28-2009, 11:07 PM
Exactly...It's like you can do this just like we did then the kid's hopes are smashed because they weren't properly informed of what it would take to do that... There was this one movie I don't remember what it was called but they built a garden in an abandoned lot owned by the city and that entire 6+ months they didn't get arrested or anything for trespassing? Hell I took a short cut 4 months ago across a lawn with tall grass and got a ticket for trespassing on city property... Another one is movies that basically say break the law if you feel your doing right when in fact your just breaking the law...

I hate chick flicks that basically state that it's always the guys fault even if she was a bitch... ie. He buys her an engagement ring, but oh what's that, the color of the 100,000 cash diamond encrusted diamond was wrong so she calls it off, then all her friends tell her he was a douche and an asshole and he wasn't right for her and then take her out to go get hammered and have hammered sex with some random guy she just met in a bar/club then they end up getting married because hes rich or some ****...

And hate cartoons by nazi's and hardcore religious people and the such that teach kids inaccuracies about what they are forced to believe in... ie. there is a cartoon to teach nazi kids that Hitler basically beat the Jews to the punch because they were planning the same thing against his people or something like that... And theres one from a particular religious group that states that they shall not associate with anybody thats not a true blooded religious person...

I laughed really long/hard at this.
tyler perry's movie with black people that can't get off the subject of how black they are
i was thinking about it and it's highly probable that the same people who support tyler perry movies are probably the same people that get mad at little miniscule glimpses of racism like in american history x
but then they go home and watch their tyler perry movies where he propagates the same black stereotype on every single character and they don't find it offensive in the slightest

Blue Velvet.
I'm such a David Lynch fanboy, but I cannot stand this film. Dennis Hopper is completely over the top and I cannot take his character seriously at all, same with Isabella Rossellini's character begging to be punished and being old and ugly and naked all the time. And the Blue Velvet song motif got pretty annoying too, just having to hear it over and over again.
It was such a pain for me to watch.
Will Ferrell anything. It's the same ****ing in in every movie. "I'm an obnoxious, loud, cocky idiot or loud, obnoxius idiot."

There was one redeeming moment in Spider-Man 3mo. When I worked in the video department at Safeway, my friend/co-worker adamently believed that Peter Parker was not wearing eyeliner when he confronted Osbourne. So we put the DVD on the showroom floor player and found the right chapter. He went in to the backroom to see it on the screen sitting on the table in the back. Once it showed an eyeliner wearing Peter Parker we all heard a WHAT?!

That is a film of some proportion. Don't consider any hype factor, just watch it...if you don't care about joining the elements of a movie as disjointed as that leave it be. But it's purely artistic in its pretense.

romantic comedies are ok to watch if you have a girlfriend because mine gets incredibly horny after watching them. unless they involve Sarah Jessica Parker, Matthew McConaughey, Hugh Grant or Drew Barrymore.
any movie (or show) based around spoiled rich kids who cant live without fake drama around them 24/7.
any american remake of japanese horror films. i understand that The Ring was sort of scary when i was younger but after that its been nothing but boring ****
i dont dislike Will Ferrell but i agree his comedy has gotten old even if hes gotten decent funny actors around him.
Adam Sandler movies are awesome i dont care what you say. i dont count Bedtime Stories though. the new Apatow movie Funny People that he is in looks awesome.

Anything with Jason Statham made after Snatch (Crank, Transporter, The Italian Job, that gay Uwe Boll Dungeon Rape movie)
Those really bad testosterone-filled urban fighting jock movies like Never Back Down that just try to copy Fight Club.
Pointless remakes that don't add anything new, i.e. Gus Van Sant's (who I like) shot-for-shot remake of Psycho, the 2003 remake of The Italian Job which Ed Norton got suckered into and was basically a giant Volkswagen ad (this goes into my dislike of Jason Statham).
Good remakes include the Russell Crowe/Christian Bale version of 3:10 To Yuma because there's an engaging plot and you actually care about the characters, and the Cameron Crowe version of Open Your Eyes (Vanilla Sky).

I always thought Scarface was one of the most overrated gangster movies ever. It's weird because some people call it a remake when it has really nothing to do with the 1932 Scarface. It's one of Al Pacino's worst movies, he over-acts so damn much it's painful, (one of the weirdest ****ing accents I've ever heard, apparently don't hire an Italian-American to play a Cuban) and the supporting cast (Mary Elizabeth Mastrantonio, Michelle Pfieffer, Steven Bauer) apparently hadn't learned how to act yet. The musical score by Giorgio Moroder is hilariously bad, and the actual music of the time is so ill-fitting in the movie.
Why should people care about Tony? I guess it's supposed to be a rags-to-riches story, but (and maybe I'm being old-fashioned) there should be some likeable qualities in the main character, whether they're a good or bad guy. Someone that the audience can identify with, at least a little bit.
Like, Al Pacino has played other gangsters, but there's been likeable qualities to them, like Michael Corleone was a family man, and Lefty Ruggiero (Donnie Brasco) was a father figure to Joe Pistone. Tony had that weird incestuous (sp) thing for his sister and shot that guy in the face for getting to close to her, and all the money he got he pretty much put up his nose, and when he was killed at the end he pretty much got what was coming.
I realize that was a long rant, but it annoys me when people talk about how great it is and how it's "da bestest gangsta movie evarrrrrr" when it's so unintentionally hilarious/bad, especially compared to good crime movies like Pulp Fiction, Eastern Promises, Goodfellas, Donnie Brasco, the Departed, Blow, Road to Perdition, etc.

Nicholas Cage can't even act for **** sake, he's been pure gash since 1997. I want to keep telling myself that Nick Cage is a good actor who has just made some bad choices in the last few years but he just seems determined to flush his career down the ****ing toilet. Like, even if he's not the most versatile actors around, he's still made some good serious movies (Adaptation., Matchstick Men, Bringing Out The Dead, Leaving Las Vegas) and some good action movies (The Rock, Con Air, even the first National Treasure was pretty cool, even if it was pretty much Indiana Jones-lite) but he keeps picking these absolute **** films, which is all the worse because he CAN act.
Robert DeNiro said that the talent is in the choices, though that's questionable because Robert DeNiro hasn't made a good film in a while too. Oh well. Maybe that's why I like younger actors more.
VheissuCrisis

EightMilesHigh, aside from Con Air, The Rock, and Lord Of War, i just can't stand him in anything else, he seems so hollow and completely like his heart just isn't in it, and that he is pumping out films purely for money, doing whatever he gets offered for the sake of a few more thousands here and there. It's pathetic but that's what it seems like. As a result i just can't stand the man, and after Knowing, i actually refuse to watch any new film he is the lead role in I think he should just stop acting and never bother anyone again.

Star Wars is cool when you're a kid and stuff but George Lucas should have just left it the hell alone after Return Of The Jedi. Like, he only directed A New Hope, and only wrote/produced The Empire Strikes Back and ROTJ. It seems like the only reason he did the prequels was to get more money, and you'd think he'd be able to live off the original films and all the goddamn franchising in the toys and video games and what the hell else that he was able to squeeze out of it.
And James Bond is cool. Especially Daniel Craig.
I hate those jock/bro/frat boy house party movies like American Pie, Van Wilder, (there's more but I can't remember the names) etc. that are just ninety minutes of guys in togas going "WHOOOOO KEGSTAND BRO"

Funny Games.
Saw/Hostel/any other ''horror'' movie which is just a ton of blood for no reason.
Anything with Seth Rogen.
''Stoner'' movies.
Movies with ambiguous endings- ''what do you think happened?'' I don't ****ing care. YOU wrote it. YOU know. It's not ambiguous. It's also not clever or deep.
Most recent comedies. I liked Role Models, before that I can't even remember the last one I enjoyed.
Comedies that think they're too good to be funny (See: What Just Happened).
Any comedy which has a picture of an animal on the cover, regardless of how small a role the animal actually played in the film:

come to think of it, besides ironman, i've never seen a gwyneth paltrow movie.
I joke sometimes that my favorite Gwyneth Paltrow movie is Se7en.
I also can't stand these terrible "government/religious conspiracy" movies like The Da Vinci Code/Angels and Demons. Some people seem to rant and rave about Dan Brown like he's the next messiah but he's terrible and just managed to make it back by writing some d-grade "religious thriller". My parents made me watch The Da Vinci Code with them and it was 100-odd minutes of my life I'm never getting back.
It's annoying because Tom Hanks is such a great actor, Ron Howard has proven that he's a good director (A Beautiful Mind) and Audrey Tautou is so damn cute, but it doesn't mean much when you're dealing with such bad material.
You're going to have to strap me down to a chair with my eyelids peeled back like Alex in A Clockwork Orange to get me to watch Angels & Demons.

And yet still there must be something I missed because I don't have a ****ing clue why someone would watch that for enjoyment.

Okay, you've justified your standing (which justifies this response)
Stick to the basics. You watch something on the pretense of "enjoyment" but thats a general term for much more subjective individual bs. Keep your own bs out of the film if it's something new to you and something that you're actually looking to appreciate.
That film in particular favors freer elements rather than guiding you by hand through the film like a "movie"

I used to be a gaffer's assistant; I expect the lighting to suit the tone of the film and the camera pointed in the right direction. I don't think they're both hard things for 300 people on a set to do collectively. If it's done intentionally, sure it can have affect, but if it's just sub-par technique then I'm going to pick it apart, like it quite obviously was.

Oh yeah, horror films in which they try to shoehorn in a shocking twist at the end, even if it doesn't make sense (See: Almost any slasher flick or torture porn movie)
While we're on the subject I also hate the term torture porn. I also hate torture porn.

In context of where the rest of the film was leading I felt it was a denouement that represented the excitement of the psychadelic 60's coming to an end.
On that note, I really want to see Gimme Shelter.

I hate chick flicks that basically state that it's always the guys fault even if she was a bitch...
Word! So true dawg. My girlfriend and I watched 'My Super Ex-Girlfriend' (needless to say, its crap but oh well, we had a lazy night in) and the Superhero, played by Uma Thurman, treated Luke Wilson's character like crap, it was horrible. Then HE is made to look like the douche cos he doesn't like her anymore and falls for the lovely Anna Faris.
This then prompted a dispute between me and my girlfriend over who is the real douche here. I seriously refused to back down over this one.

Congratulations.
i'm sure being gaffers assistant was pretty enlightening when you came home and could tell your friends about how you stocked your room full of white light
it's too bad for all of us ignorant folks who can't tell when a scene isn't properly "bathed in light"
if only we could all be gaffers assistants! i'd finally know whether to switch to cfl's or not.

There's no need for you to fight for Luke Wilson's honor. End this.

Haha, Luke Wilson sucks.
I wasn't really fighting for Luke Wilson, it was the principal that if a guy is getting treated like crap from his gf, its understandable that he's gonna wanna leave her for someone better and inevitable they will like someone else. There's nothing wrong with that.

from one i've seen recently, valkyrie pissed me off. from the very beginning with the narration in german discreetly changing into tom cruise narrating in english, i just wanted to punch him in the face. pretty much the entire movie i wanted to ruin his ****.
