gotta go with sweboy and his comets on fire recommendation. 'Avatar' is a phenom album. try Gown, although that can be a bit too psych sometimes. Japan throws out some awesome stuff like Acid Mothers Temple (although they release so many albums that you gotta dig through them to get to the really ace stuff), Eternal Elysium and of course Boris - but rather than Smile, i'd go with Pink. think it has more psyche moments than Smile.

I personally think the Black Angels are one of the most overrated bands out of Austin. The guitarist has about 20 side projects that keep getting press because he's in them, but they reek like dead hamster. They aren't even particularly psych-y to me, just droning, with the same riff for 20 minutes. I guess I like my older, more poppy psych unless it goes into stoner-metal directions.

Bardo Pond has been making this music for a long time and rarely gets the nod. Then there's The Sun Blindness. These guys quietly released one of last year's best albums, Like Pearly Clouds. And of course..
